Moon on a stick. light, fast, grippy, durable.

currently using a Lithion 2 on the back of the roadbike, but it is on its last legs so need to replace it. I don’t know if it is the tyre aging but it has been feeling a little odd in corners recently?

I had a pro-race 3 on prior to it which was nice but not exactly cheap. Have also used Vredestein Fortezza’s, but sourcing has never been a strong point, Gatorskins, not the nicest but do the job, grand prixs, getting pricey.

    So any other suggestions.

Things to consider i am commuting 100-150 a week so don’t want something that will die too quickly or something too thin that will puncture if you so much as introduce it to a country lane, but i don’t want a heavy tyre that is going to annoy me by being draggy.

    Conti GP 4000s.

Never thought I’d like them, they last for ever and are good enough to race on.

Just put some Michelin Krylion Carbons on the ss commuter; they’re fast. They are also supposedly nearly puncture proof – I pulled what looked like a small flint arrowhead out (4 mm long) at the weekend and it hadn’t gone through. 2 for £46 delivered too.

GP4000s are the most overrated tire EVER.

Yep, 4000s here too (on two bikes!).
Love them. Much nicer than the Gatorskins they replaced.
Can’t think of any cons., other than a few quite deep slices in the outer layer; caused through off-road jaunts.

    Would buy the same again

    Schwalbe Durano are nice.
Or Durano Plus if you want more puncture protection / durability.

Pro 3’s generally available for £21 a tyre.

Use schwalbe ultremo miself. Conti’s feel slow but prob tougher than the 2 mentioned above -cant have everything, especially if you dont want to pay £££’s

gatorskins are a winter traing tyre- feel crap but bulletproof -get rid of em in summer.

    Schwalbe R1 or http://www.nextdaytyres.com/Tyres/Schwalbe/Ultremo-ZX-2011.aspx

Premium tyres. Better than 4000s by a long mile.

I’m getting on well with Pro Optimums, not too pricey either.

More Ultremo’s here. Real life ~180g and pretty durable. Current back one has 2k miles on it and no probs so far.

I’m pretty sure I’ve got at least 6’000 miles on my Conti GP 4000s.

I don’t like to disagree with a big hitter, but they are the best compromise between wear and performance that I have come across.

I’ve used Vredesteins, Michelins, Vittorias, Hutchinsons and Veloflexes.

Bloody hell! 6k miles on a rear? I bet you weigh 50kg and fill it with concrete instead of air 🙂

I can’t even get 6k out of a front, any tyre, any bike, any time.

    Good on yer.

    🙂

    That’s why I’m so impressed!

I reckon that’s 18 months worth of riding, including a lot of winter nastiness over silly roads to prepare for last years Tour of Flanders.

I used to swear by Vredestein Tricomps, but I’d only get 6 months out of a rear.
