I know this will of been asked before but I just want to pick your brains if you don’t mind.

I’m about to click buy on a 456 EVO II, currently I have a Pitch, medium with a 586 long top tube and a Unit, 17″ frame with a 597 top tube.

I don’t feel stretched out on the Unit neither do I feel cramped on the Pitch.

Do I go for 16″ (592mm top tube) or 18″ (603mm top tube).

I want the bike to cope with techie Lakes riding and fairly long rides.

    I’m 5’9″ on a tall day with a 30″/31″ inside leg.

    I’m swinging towards a 16″.

I’ll be using the Pitch as a donor if that makes any difference?

    Thanks

I’m 5’9″ and ride a medium Pitch. Also ride a 16″ Ragley Mmmbop and used to have a 16″ steel 456 if that’s any help.

I’m 5’6″ on an optimistic day, with about 29″ inside leg and ride a 16″ which feels the right size for me, lots of seat post out, albeit. 50mm stem. I can’t fault the bike it’s brilliant, the rider holds it back

Hi I ride a medium full sus 17″ I think?
When buying a 456 I tried a mates 18″ and was surprised how big it felt
Top tube long and too high.
From that I bought a 16″ and it feels bang on with a 50mm stem
    I’m 5’8 with 30″ inside leg.
    There a hoot btw.
Where are you I’m north lakes if you want try. It’s not an evo tho.

Medium i’d say. My 20″ was about cock on for me at 6’1 with 31″ inside leg. That was with a 70mm stem and 740mm bars. Forks at 120mm and no stem spacers to keep the front low.

Try and compare reach on the bikes also as that can make a difference.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

The reach isn’t on the web for the Pitch, but the Unit’ has a much longer reach than the 456, but then its a totally different bike.

16″ it will be I reckon.

NCB- you know me!- the bikes must give it away! I’ll try and pop up for a sit on your 456, just don’t want to miss out on the current price!

    16″ will be fine, I’m 6’3″ and have a 18″ Ra4gley Mmmbop & a fair few 20″ 456 bikes in steel, Ti & Carbon.

NCB – if you wouldn’t mind?

I am feeling a 16″ is probably the best bet. I’d prefer to not have a more of seat post showing of possible though.

This is how much post I run, its not on the limit indicator and carbon!

5ft 9in ride and usually a medium in most bikes including Spesh.16in 456 is perfect for me.

    16″ for sure imo…at 5′ 9″, I’ve a 16″ Scandal 29er, 16″ C456 & 16″ inbred 853

Same height and inside leg as you and I have a 16″ 456 EVO2. The only thing I am considering is getting a layback Seatpost cos it feels a little short on reach although that might be partly due to my other bike (an inbred slot dropout) having a longer reach. After riding the bike for a few minutes I tend not to notice it as much.

OP, I am the same height as you and after seeking advice here, went 16″ Evo titanium. From my experience, that’s where you need to be. Great bikes, BTW

    Euro- fair point!

After chucking a leg over NCBs 456 out has confirmed I need a 16″.

Order placed for a Matt Raw one.

    Thanks for the help.

C’mon On One, do me right and get my frame here quick sharp!

Just a follow up- Ordered late Monday afternoon and turned up Wednesday morning, good work by On-One and Yodel.

Had its first ride today, christened with the Borrowdale Bash, very impressed. Not what I’d describe as harsh by a long way. Just could do with a slightly shorter stem.

Looking forward to getting out on it again!

    I’m 5′ 9″ and ride a 16 inch 45650b and rode a 16 inch 456-evo.

Easier to make a small frame larger with lay back posts, long stems etc than the other way round with a frame that’s too large.
