  • 2mm rim difference – need new spokes?

My new 4.2D rims seem to dent as soon as I look at them so I'm thinking of switching back to Mavic.

If I fit a rim that's 2mm smaller in internal diameter (542 instead of 544 ERD) will I need new spokes as well?

    Cheers

Seeing as 2mm diameter is just 1mm per spoke, probably not.

Have a look at the spoke ends and see if they could be 1mm longer without poking out from the end of the nipple. If not you could probably switch to 12mm nipples if you have 14mm at the moment.

Mind you, I'd certainly ride them till they're buggered before I paid out nearly £80 for a new pair.

Probbaly not. Most wheel builds wil accept another 1mm of spoke.
