  • 23 – 24 inch monitors????

    Have around £300 to spend (would prefer to spend less) on a new monitor. Been ages since I last bought one and am a little confused as to the best options.

    Was advised to try Dell but they seem to get mixed reviews!

    It will be hooked up for home working mainly (Apple Macbook) with ppt, photos, Word being the main uses. No need for gaming or video editing etc

    Any guidance appreciated

    Dell are good if you get an Ultrasharp, which have DVI input, more colour configurability and much better viewing angles – I have the 27″ one at work and it’s excellent (though the 20″ alongside it a little less so). Their non-Ultrasharp monitors are often crap.

    It’s 22″ but I have the BenQ E2200HD and love it. The speakers are rubbish but it has HDMI, AVI and VGA inputs, and afaics it’s great. Gamers give it good marks.

    I assume they make a 24″ model but 22″ is about 180 quid delivered according to here: http://planetprices.co.uk/c-46/p-1154061/Benq-E2200HD-Black/compare

    How important is colour accuracy to you? When you say “photos”, do you want something that will handle the full Adobe RGB colour space or just look reasonable for your snaps on flickr?

    Thanks for the replies.

    GrahamS – the latter really. Just looking for something that will be pleasing to the eye and not make us feel “wish we’d spent more”! Within limits obviously…

    Sounds like you’d be happy TN-film based panel with a standard gamut (which is good news for your budget).

    Look for something that supports Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) and has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs.
