MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
After years of not really wearing any trainers at all, I quite fancy a colourful pair of Adidas Gazelles.
Anything else I should consider?
Inov 8's are my favourites for running in.
As a dedicated lifelong wearer of trainers, I've admitted that I'm getting on a bit and invested in a pair of New Balance..
Very comfy and seem to be lasting forever with a gazillion choices of colour and nice special editions if you shop around
Get the Gazelles.
I have always bought Adidas but recently decided to try a pair of New Balance 574's. The New Balance are so comfortable that i will not be switching back to Adidas in an hurry.
Yup, New Balance here too..
Think I'm on my 15th Pair?
Doesn't help they have a factory outlet 5mins from the office in Warrington.
Get some absolute bargains..
Stan Smith's
Converse All-star Ox. There's a colour for every occasion
Adidas Busenitz are worth a look at, skate shoes that have an old skool look.
I'd really love it if they re-released the Rekord trainers as these are a firm favorite of mine.
Converse all star or ox for me.
Gazelles?
Yes, always.
Samba, only ever acceptable in black leather and if you've actually been to a football match.
Marathon - make you look a bit French and not in a good way. Otherwise excellent and give the impression you might occasionally break into a trot.
Stan Smith - Along with the Wimbledon and Diadora Borg Elite, the only acceptable white training shoe.
See postmodern/ironic use of Green Flash for confirmation, if any were needed.
Nike? No.
Puma? Football boots, not trainers.
New Balance are fine on a gentlemen of a certain age, as are Vans.
Inov8's were great until you had to employ someone to help you choose which shoe you needed.
Merrell are worn by bedwetters, North Face by snobs and Keen by people whose thighs rub together.
Asics for me. Or should I say Onitsuku Tiger.
Comfortable and I don't care what anyone thinks. Although a 16 year old daughter of a friend said she was 'liking' them. How many of you can say that eh? 😛
I'm partial to a bit of Walsh as well as some NB action...

...and 50% off at the moment as well!
what about Hi-tec or Gola? 😥
Everything posted so far is a pub shoe. Do you want pub shoe or trainers?
Different tools for different jobs.
Pretty much live in New Balance, favourites are 996 but have got a bit of a collection, 570's, 1300's etc, have a pair of Saucony for running that are alright.
New Balance for me If I have the choice....sometimes I don't care but if the choice is there I'd have New Balance. They have such a good range and not chavy like Nike and some other makes....I'd day they are like the Skoda of trainers, Nike and Addidas more your Golf or Audi A3
I think NB are more like an old Astra SRI, cool in the early 90's but people have now realised they're a bit shit.
Get the Gazelles, I've just ordered a pair of Spezials from the Adidas website, if you register you get a 15% discount voucher.
....Merrell are worn by bedwetters
I've got some Merrells and I havent wet the bed in weeks, so there!
Inov8's were great until you had to employ someone to help you choose which shoe you needed.Merrell are worn by bedwetters....
I refuse to be called a bedwetter by someone who cannot work out how to buy an Inov8.
Now if you excuse I need to go change my adult nappy.
Adidas ZX750 - Always.
NIke SB Portmore.
for the squeak
My good friend who works for a so very, very cool retailer (where the yoot actually vet you as you enter the store to ascertain whether they'll take your money) says it's all about the Adidas superstar. dlx model only. UK made Nb good. U.S. made Nb good also.
Vans are now off trend, which is good for me cuz they're cheaper!
SaxonRider - yes, but only if you wear them under your cassock.
All of the retro shoes are rubbish. The shoes they are imitating (the ones we used to run in, in the 70's and 80's) were all rubbish but they were the best around then. Why people would pay top dollar for such crap is beyond me.
If you can put up with Greg Wallace I think he's at the New Balance factory on BBC2 @ 8pm
Found an almost new pair of these in the back of my wardrobe recently...

I'll only watch it if you promise that he'll be amazed and repeat the answer to every question that's asked.
Vans anything in a size 9.
Trainers? Never had a favourite pair, they get changed at 250 miles.
Oh, you mean shoes like look like shoes people actually 'train' in?
Yes, entire populaton of the UK you've all got it wrong since like forever, a smug smart arse says so!
i didn't get the "joke" 🙁
Impressed, less than one post before someone didn't get the joke.
must be a good joke

You're in luck.
You're in luck.
I'M IN LUCK?! Amazing!
Running: Brooks Ravenna VI
Training: Reebok whatever
Casual: Vans
Bollocks who are you lot trying to kid it's these.

Yes. Now look amazed, while we pad 30 minutes of fairly entertaining fare to 1hr of painful repetition, and treat the audience like they're 3.
I saw some of that. Ruth Goodman interesting (if hardly covering new ground). Wallace is an utter, utter berk*.
When I last owned trainers I wore Puma Sprint, but my absolute favourites were an all brown pair of Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66s. Deciding to get another pair I can't find any anywhere on the high street, even in Liverpool (the apparent home of the tracksuit and trainer combo).
*by which I'm not using the apparently mild Middle England insult, but its true meaning: Berkeley Hunt.
JimJam +1, the only two pairs of trainers I will wear are all stars and adidas originals, although I'm now too old to wear them without laces...
Always been an adidas fan
Currently rocking PT 70's like these but with lime green laces

Pigface, I think they were forced to cease trading back in 1982 for crimes against fashion.
I was going to buy a pair of Gazelles but i think they're too dear.
Actual training trainers, I go for whatever NB trail shoe that doesn't look gopping this year.
Pub shoes, I have a pair of Timberlands that look vaguely like trainers.
Don't wear leather so limited choice somewhat. I like Chester copper pot's style, but pay through the nose for the swoosh.

I've got 2 pairs of all time favourite trainers....
Nike Air Huarache's were my favourite running trainers the first time around - but they are now around £80-90 - so as much as I'd love a pair, I'm not paying that for them...
Mine were a bit like these:
And, there were the limited edition grey & black Nike Air Jordan that somehow elevated me from 'geek loser' to 'not quite so much of a geek loser' when I wore them to school....
These puppies....
Been an Adidas fan for a few years, they just seem to fit me well and are comfy.
First off I had classic Samba's - used extensively for indoor football, squash and casual wear, still going as rough/when I want to look cool in a beat up old pair of trainers.........
Then Plimcana low - understated, until you lift your heel - blue sole - boom, just washed as spent a month in the shed covered in Goodwood mud. Really should dig the blue laces out.
Current favourites are Beckenbauer Allrounds, impulse purchase from local factory shop place:
Oh yeah, and these, but I'm not a big fan, they were just cheap for holiday from Sports Direct, they're a bit plastic-y:
All in current use, but I'm thinking of just getting some subtle Fiveten freeriders next time, they work well off the bike and look ok. Guy Martin wears fivetens all the time too.
Really want some of these though:
"Bollocks who are you lot trying to kid it's these."
😆
Is that CaptainFlasheart's shoe collection?
A lot of the current 'retro' re-issues are because the 30-40 somethings who grew up in the 70s and 80s want to revisit their long-gone youth. There are some ok designs, a few Adidas ones that are quite nice, but many others are truly horrid. Personally, I've had good use from NB and Adidas, but the latter have gone too narrow lately. So you'll probably see me rocking smething like these:
Classy eh? 😆 Very comfy for my wide feet though. 😳
core
Has won this thread .. Sambas for dossing Beckenbaur for jeans and pub and Gazelles with shorts , thread over
What's the difference between the different Adidias styles like the Sambas, Gazelles, and the Beckenbauers? Just appearance? Or are they designed for different purposes?
And Yunki... I like those Samoas!
Saxonrider .. thats like asking a Manc the differnces between is kagools
I wish I could wear some Adidas Samba or any other claasic/retro type of trainers but they must be the narrowest shoe in the world Adidas I haven't been able to wear any since my feet got to a UK size 14 when I was in my mid teens.
I always preferred Reebok, the older Classics were great when they brought them back out.. Full grain genuine leather and had no lining the leather was so soft and subtle they didn't need it. Then as always they started messing and the leather is harder and crappy linings added inside to make up the deficiency grip pattern and rubber changed and the price went up!
Loved the original Reebok Royal and Rapide
I wear an Adidas 12 and have always had wide feet, they seem to fit me fine.
Superstars if Adidas.
But I prefer Vans.
Apparently I'm off-trend now, which suits me just fine.

Do you have a love for classic 90s Fords too? And track suits? 😉
Weird how trainer threads always bring people put saying "adidas Samba are all you need". Horrific.

Shop around mate, you'll find Huas for less than RRP in the sales
ETA
Also weird people sceptical about New Balance, they've always been top quality but the last couple of years they've become the hipster's choice and the prices are reflecting that.
What trainers? Pfft! Amateur! The correct answer is ALL the trainers!
The perfectly acceptable male version of the female 'you can never have too many shoes and handbags'. I just treated myself to (yet another) pair of New Balance 576's. Some lovely leather ones. They'll fit in nicely with all the others and the assorted Adidas. 😀
New Balance trainer purchases are also a good excuse to go to Keswick for the weekend. Should you need one. The 576's were 70 quid there, as opposed to 120 usually.
Stumpy, I've recently bought a pair of those Jordans (same OG as you posted) probably never wear them though!
The sad thing is, I've got more money in unused sneakers than bikes.
I am really bored with most of the trainer designs of the last 20 years or so. All the styles haven't particularly changed just the colours. I actually used to love my Northwave Espressos back in the day. At least in the 90s there were some companies trying to do something a little different.[img]

And people gave me a hard time for wearing Spesh 2FOs?
Holy crapola, there are some fugly shoes here!
Rotor Stern, were you in the spice girls?
My god those things are hideous!
Watched the documentary on New Balance last night, with Gregg 'buttery biscuit base' Wallace. It's really interesting, and well worth a viewing. A refreshing answer to the 'we don't make anything any more' brigade. We do. Lots. And really, really well.
Good to see happy, highly skilled staff turning out quality turning out a quality british made product, mostly for export
