Days of Thunder
Collateral is a great film as is A Few Good Men. The latter is not really a Tom Cruise film to be honest. Although another film in which he doesn’t star - Tropic Thunder, his cameo is great.
Born on the 4th of July.
Magnolia is good too but not a Tom Cruise film really.
Point of critical order: Collateral is a Michael Mann film with Tom Cruise in it. In other words its got Mann's stamp on it rather than Cruise. But it's a damn good one. Valid I guess.

That's why it's the best movie that he's been in.
Ton cruise? Is that his home made go-pro videos of bits of East Leeds?
Knight and Day, and Vanilla Sky, not because of Cruise
Note made to watch Knight and Day although not for Ton.🤗

yep the Smartzukis are well cool.
Legend, directed by Ridley Scot and co-starring Tim Curry.
If nothing else, it goes to show just how good the industry of dentistry has become in the last 30 years, assuming you can afford to pay for it.
Remarkable that The Last Samurai hasn't got a mention up to now. Well now it has.
Interesting that there's hardly any mention of Mission Impossible, in my own mind they are garbage and make Tom Cruise an actor I'm just not interested in (add the Top Guns, just not my sort of file at all)... however, I have seen a few of his at the cinema over the years and went away happy from Legend, Minority Report, Rain Man, Colour of Money and Jerry Maguire.
Not sure which I'd watch again.
Oblivion coz I like the machine he was flying in.

They are excellent examples of the genre, they aren't meant to be serious dramas. If you're not into that genre, you won't like them, but they are great popcorn movies. Same with Top Gun.
I forgot
Rock of Ages.
Scroll up^^ 😉
I know the last MI film didn’t get great reviews but it wasn’t an absolute stinker. The mummy film is the only other one I can think of. What are the other really bad ones?
It's a question of taste, obviously, but IMO all of them except Magnolia, Tropic Thunder and Topic Gun. The Mission Impossible films are like the A-Team, but without the wit, charm, allegory and character arcs...
I like lots of them, but my personal top 5:
Risky Business (moreso for RdM)
Top Gun (for the planes)
Maverick (for the planes)
All The Right Moves
The Firm

Yes, exactly. Hence "in my own mind"

From what I remember, it wasn't a great movie, extremely predictable and Cruise wasn't really at his best, just the wrong role for him. I always wished they'd cast Robert Carlyle in that role.
@thols2 got it first. Magnolia is a masterpiece of Tom Cruise's acting and of cinema.
I left it a long time before watching Edge of Tomorrow, due to MI fatigue. Wished I'd watched it years ago, so it's a close run thing between that and Collateral
Theres usually some guff spouted on STW but two (two???) recommendations for Knight and Day? Really? It's truly dreadful.
Buy yourselves new ears / eyes / brain in the upcoming chain reaction fire sale.
I always like to see him sprinting, nobody runs like the Cruise
I prefer Steven Seagal's running style.
But the answer is Edge of Tomorrow/Live. Die. Repeat. A really good little old skool SF movie.
I really like Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow. I also thought the first Jack Reacher film was pretty good, despite the obvious issues with him as Reacher. And I think the last few Mission Impossible films have been better than last few Bonds (haven't seen the most recent one though)
But there aren't many that aren't pretty watchable - he's had a few stinkers for sure but he's got a pretty good record on the whole
Not the whole film but the bit in in War of the Worlds when the storm starts and the tripods appear I think is brilliant!
No, it ain’t no classic but it’s great entertainment,
So is 8 cans of Stella but I wouldn't actively recommend it
Knight and Day is an odd one. Is Cruise supposed to be a charming lead man who drugs, kidnaps and strips the leading lady while she's unconscious? He ends up with the girl, rather than on the sex offenders register, so he must be OK, I suppose...
