Collateral, Minority Report or Edge of Tomorrow for me. If this makes two pages it will be something different.

Vanilla Sky (as he doesn’t rely on his looks or stunts to make the movie what it is)

But also Minority Report for the opposite reasons.

For me its either Risky Business or Cocktail, both great in their story line and cast as well as the soundtrack.

Minority Report (just a great film)

Collateral (totally different role which he pulls off well)

Tropic Thunder (honourable mention).

Probably something from the early 00s, one of the Gumball films? Dont think you can really get that fast for any amount of time these days.

Since someone has already done the 'Ton' jokes, I'll go with Minority Report, MI3 or Edge of Tomorrow. Edge of Tomorrow mainly for ahem, other cast members though. 🙂

Edge of Tommorrow really is a great bit of Sci Fi and gets bonus points for Emily Blunt

Honorable mention to both Top Gun films.  The first, while flawed is just an iconic piece of 80s action cinema and the second manages to somehow how not make an issue of the 30 year gap between the two films and end up better than the original. And by refusing anything but a full cinema release it helped cinema recover post pandemic.

Oh, I forgot A Few Good Men, though a lot of that had to do with how brilliantly nasty and arrogant Nicholson plays his part of the Marine Colonel.

I never knew till recently that the film was actually based upon a real Code Red incident that took place at Guantanamo Bay though there wasn't an actual death involved.

There is a lot of sneering about Cruise, but he has such a huge catalogue of films that you find on the telly at 10pm on a week-night and always watch all the way through.

Jack reacher, not for the acting but for the remarkable casting as he surely must have done that job himself

The title of the sequel was a coded instruction from the writers. 🙂

But yes, would watch both with a beer. It's best not to watch the TV adaptation for comparison though.

Speak for yourself. It's remarkable how poor most of his movies are.

A Few Good Men, but more because it's Sorkin, not because it's Cruise.

Oh yeah, I went to the theatre with Tom Cruise once.

Well, I went to a show in New York and he was ushered in after the lights went down, and ushered out at the end to applause.
He was with that Katie lady.

I imagine he still talks about seeing me there even today.

I'm by no mean a Tom Cruise fanboy, but you really have to give respect where its due.  He's been one of Hollywood's most bankable stars for 30+ years.  He's without question the best action cinema actor of all time and also produced some decent dramatic performances.  Personal weirdness aside he is probably one of the very few "superstars" left that haven't been swallowed by the comic / superhero franchise juggernauts.

Has he? I know the last MI film didn't get great reviews but it wasn't an absolute stinker. The mummy film is the only other one I can think of. What are the other really bad ones?

As a glam metal fan back in the day I love the soundtrack and absurdity of it. Also good to see Tom not taking himself so seriously for once
