Martha Wainwright 'Proserpina'..... just amazing.

Sorry.......I can't help myself.

Waiting for an influx of drunken emotional posts after people stumble in from the pub😉.

Heard Sting's Fields Of Gold on the radio today for first time in ages, very mellow tune.

Phil Collins' Father To Son is another tune that springs to mind.

The utterly beautiful Amy. What a voice. An absolute tragedy

Right! I’m starting the drunken over-emotional stuff then.

If you can watch this girl, having done this gig, after everything, with a dry eye, then you’ve a heart of stone. Watched this with my wife and my two daughters and we all cried like babies.

Manchester. One love. Beautiful indeed...

Fields of Gold was played many times as our alcoholic friend waited for her liver to fail nearly 20 years ago. Memorable for all the wrong reasons. (Just in from a terrible pub-crawl event in Vienna, they don’t have a problem drinking culture as you can’t get served).

The entire, yet achingly brief, output of Nick Drake is full of beauty

and gave rise to more of it

Surely it's got to be Lady in Red...?

But on a serious note, I don't know if it's going to sleep music but "Things the grandchildren should know" by Eels always gives me goose bumps.

Could list a number of Simon & Garfunkel, together or solo material.

Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters has particular personal meaning to me.

Johnny Cash version of Hurt

Heard this for the first time recently, written with the war in Kosovo in mind but for me as we approach the 100th anniversary of the armistice this seems a beautiful evocation of the terrible loss that war brings

Good call Dezzy Baby. Great track, but also a contender for the other recent thread ‘albums that you bought on the strength of one track that turned out to be crap’

Sorry, I need a list of defined deliverables so I make sure I'm posting the right stuff. Personally, I find some really heavy music "beautiful", but that may not fulfill the OP's criteria.

Define “beautiful”.

Red the OP's post - songs to listen to before going to sleep. I only just read it, but think mine fit. 🙂

I loved the FC Kahuna album, Binners.. nothing quite matches Hayling on there, 'tis true 😀

I've been listening to the Devin Townsend before I go to sleep, but I suspect that might not be appropriate. Anyhoo, here you go:

Beck Paper Tiger and Volcano, plenty of BOC and most of Selected Ambient Works.

This gets me right in the feels around the 3.40 minute mark.

Playing music from phone on a drive today and this gem came up;

Snow Patrol; Turn the fire to the third bar ft. Martha Wainwright.

I'd post the video, but I can't for the life of me get it work on this shit forum platform.

Of Monster and Men; Little Talks is another beautiful song.

And, somewhat surprisingly, Slipknot; Snuff.

On the basis of something beautiful that helps me get to sleep (re-reading the OP 🤢) well for the last 10 years I’ve been listening to Arvo Parts Kanon Pokajanen last thing at night in my bed (although recently I’ve taken to playing it RFL on my Walkman).

apparently it’s the Canon of Redemption sung in Church Slavonic. To me, it’s just sheer unadulterated minimalist beauty. This gives a flavour:

it has a sister piece (Symphony No 4 Los Angeles - based on Canon of the Guardian Angel). The cd I have also has ‘fragments’ after it so it also gets frequent listening, but in a more normalised setting.

Doesn't have to be bedtime music, just something that's either hauntingly beautiful or that really connects with you when you're in a 'reflective' mood.

Preferably no Slipknot😉.

Snow Patrol earns the first card of the thread. And its a straight red! 😉

I’ve just realised that this thread has unbelievably managed to get this far without anything from the high queen of gorgeousness. Quite an achievement to make something utterly beautiful about drowning at sea

Kate Bush is mentioned in the OP...

As you can't even read the first post properly I am calling on the video ref to disallow your red card. 😀

Brilliant choice from Thepurist there

I've got an ipod I listen to at night.. here's a few that are on it

Also Moby's recent "Long Ambients" album is a gorgeous thing. I don't think I've heard much of it cos I just sleep with it playing 🙂
