Sun salutations - burpees for hippies?
We quite often do 12 rounds of salutations if we're up and about early enough to make time to do them.. The other morning we accidentally clicked on 27 rounds mantra led salutations.. Sweaty but very rewarding..
Just noticed today that there are versions for 108 rounds!!
Anyone else doing yoga?
Any recommendations for good dvds?
Nothing too advanced bur something to give a really thorough session
Can't beat a real class in my view. Way better than a DVD. Yoga, is so much more than just a learning some stretches, and a good teacher will guide you.
I once thought about the 108 thing, local place does it once of twice a year for some festival. Glad I didn't do it, would have killed me! Respect to anyone who can do it.
Personally I can't stand DVDs for repeated viewing as seeing the same bits over and over again drives me crazy after only a few goes.
I use "Yoga Studio" by Modern Lotus though if you have iPad/iPhone. It's done in a very clinical style (just a figure in front of a totally white background) with an almost-monotone voice over. This really works for me and I use it most days. Each pose in the video is also modular so there is a massive variety of different classes (flexibility, strength, relaxation, etc in beginner/intermediate/advanced flavours) and you can also assemble your own custom class which flows seamlessly (app will even fill in transitional poses for you). It's only a few quid and I have got so much use out of it I can't recommend it enough. Would happily have paid 10x the price for it!
Agree with urbanhiker that a class is best - I do one most weeks - but the app is a great accompaniment.
yeah, I did a class for the first time in years a coupla months ago, it was totally wonderful, but I really can't seem to make the time at the moment
thanks for the advice, might look into the modern lotus thing
Had a herniated disc about 8 years ago. Back has never been right since and not likely to be without regular maintenance. Bought a book on recommendation from a mtb buddy who also suffered from regular back pain. Back RX by Vijay Vad, M.D. its both yoga and Pilates based and takes between 15-30 mins. What a difference. Core is stronger and pain has reduced significantly. Couldn't praise it highly enough and I'm pretty sceptical about this sort of stuff usually.
I do a bit when I can find the time. Makes a big difference to me as my body takes a battering for most of the year (bike guide in the summer, wannabe snowboard instructor in the winter).
Even a few rounds of sun salutations makes a big difference.
I do this one, (amongst others) sometimes when I can't be arsed to go to a class.
