With John Bercow handing in his notice, who does STW think might be a likely / good candidate to replace him? (Granted, this may be two different answers...) Apparently convention dictates that it should be a Labour MP.

I used to hate Bercow, he really was the worst of the tory party condensed into a human like form. But he has been on a political journey during his time as speaker, and I suspect he would now find his natural home in another party. I think he has been immense over the past couple of years and has actually kept his impartiality under some serous abuse from the head bangers and loons.
Dominic Grieve would be perfect as his replacement, I am not sure there is anyone in labour with his "gravity" to fill the role at this time. Unfortunately I think the Tories would run a candidate against him in an election to try and remove him.

Jess Philips. Who's probably a bit light on the procedural stuff and would want to carry on being a constituency MP in any case. I'd like Emily Thornberry for it but Labour can't really afford to lose her.

Another vote for Jess Phillips - her put down of Boris last week was excellent.
It was interesting to see the lack of applause from the Tory benches when Bercow had finished his resignation speech - shows you how much the Tories disrespect the key offices of Parliament
Watching parliament live in the background, hahahahahah Johnson is ****ing pissed - I've never seen a PM so livid before. Red in the face, arms crossed, grumpy cat expression.....brilliant.

The signs have been there that Bercow is a decent human being for a long time - if you look at just how far back his record of pissing off fellow Tories goes. He defied a three line whip against liberalizing adoption back in 2002.

He's an unpleasant bully who had to jump before he was pushed by HR over his treatment of staff.
