Anybody know if this is possible and how? Got a 12 month membership with the intention of adding it to my account as advised by Cougar of this parish, so I have control. However left the card lying around intending to enable it this evening and whilst I'm in the shower mini aracer added it to his account (I found out before I got back downstairs due to a notification email for his account). So is it possible to transfer from his account to mine (which will also help with card purchases)? In case it needs mentioning his account is a family account under mine (and I also have control of the email account it's registered to).

You almost certainly can, and you almost certainly will have to ring MS to do it. (I did something similar once.) You might be able to get them to ring you via the Live Chat on the website, I can't remember 100% now but I think that's what I did.
