for me it was Uluru, or Ayres Rock. just didn't get that "wow" feeling when i saw it.

perhaps it aws the 2 hour drive from the main highway. or the fact that you drive past other big rocks and you go "is that it". or it was the fact that i had seen pictures of it every single day since i arrived in Oz.

I must admit, I thought Kata Tjuta was more impressive - I think the billions of other people buzzing round took some of the magic from it for me though. Having said that, we did the base walk and it was great.

Grand Canyon's pretty darn impressive.

And I remember climbing a huuuuge (250m+) sand dune in Namibia to see what looked like a mountain range of sand on the other side, that was pretty cool.

alpin & pook + 1.

I much preferred Kata Tjuta as well. Kings Canyon was also good.

On the other hand I was really impressed by Sydney Harbour Bridge. Far larger than I thought.

Taj Mahal didn't really do it for me, but the Manikarnika Ghats on the banks of the Ganges at Varanasi where they cremate their dead made me go WOW!, Likewise in Himachal Pradesh, through Buntar and up the Parvati valley an entire hillside blanketed by Cannabis plants made me go WOW!, and led me to spending a happy week living wi the locals in a shack whilst hand rubbing my own charas till i had a solid lump the size of a golfball - WOW!. 😀

We were all canyoned out by the time we reached the grand canyon so it didn't quite have the wow factor (plus we arrived at night and overnight temps were -10 at the campsite which meant we were a bit grumpy in the morning.)

godzilla - that shanti town seemed to stretch right into the middle of mumbai, a very strange airport & place to fly into for your first ever time in india, and i thought the stench when you left the airport would stay with me forever, funnily enough i wasn't aware of it when i flew out 6 months later.

I think my mates must be referring to its neighbour Madchester ... errmm ... or they were winding me up big time.

Ayers Rock & Vegas were my 2 biggest dissapointments on a recent wow trip.

The rock is just that & Vegas was a larger, brasher version of Wind St in Swansea with gaudier bars, over the top architecture & people on the street handing out flyers for t!tty shows & ladies of ill repute.

Venice is awful. Smells terrible in summer, cramped, tatty.

Paris. It's noisy, smelly, full, massive and simply the most unromantic place I could think of. The outskirts are much nicer than the centre.

I don't much like cities to be honest so London, Rome (which is OK) and New York (which is quite interesting) don't feature high on my list. I'm glad I've been to all these places though.

Nice city? Florence (when there's no dustbin men strike on), absolutely stunning.

Although Hong Kong was very, very interesting. I quite liked it there.

Statue Of Liberty... its not that big
Times Square, small and surprisingly, not square
Disney World Florida, too many fat people on disability scooters who are too lazy to walk.

Just reviewed the above... there may be a theme....

Oh, Stringfellows. Expensive and not particularly entertaining although a lady did appear to be strangely interested in me. Now while I'm obviously like, well sexy, I still find it a point of note when a lady who is apparently excessively keen on me, suggests we go back to my place right now. Alarm bells and that.

I say wow to those that say NYC didn't make them go wow.

Keeping to the US theme; LA had its moments (e.g. the beaches and Beverly Hills) but I seem to have missed whatever people like about Boston.

The Mona Lisa. It's chuffin' tiny! It's a dark, gloomy picture kept in a dark, gloomy room, and if you want to see it up close you have to slowly elbow your way through a crowd of sweaty tourists (yeah, yeah, I know, I am the problem). Rubbish.

Paris - don't like it. It is disfunctional and the people are a PITA
French food - it's a bit over rated really
Vienna - the outskirts are like a 18th Century version of Bladerunner.
Anfield - small , cramped and rubbish seats. And full of scousers
San Fransico - slightly threatening to say the least
Las Vegas - probably just about everything that is wrong with the US rolled into one.
Cadwell Park - maybe because it spat me off !
Lobster - sweet , chewy and full of nothingness
Rose cooked duck
The Life of Pi
Full suspension mountain bikes
Riding with flat pedals

Ooh another one.

Lands end. I say it didn't make me go WOW, and that's because I didn't see it. You have to *pay* to get there. The end of my country and I have to pay. No.

You think it should be somehow special just because it's a peninsula? There's plenty of great coastal scenery and fantastic cliffs around and about.

The bit you pay for is a piss poor sort of theme park effort which is really a collection of tacky tourist stands, so if you were expecting to go wow you'd have been very sorely disappointed.

I assumed it would be amazing but I've no idea because everyone who has paid to go see it are understandably very cagey about sharing their experiences. Why should I benefit from their expenditure.

Another one for Vegas, I'm afraid.
Like Blackpool, but worse.
Sad, desperate, dump full of bad drugs & broken people.
Just depressing on every level.

Van Morrison gigs - I'm a huuuge fan of his recorded stuff, but live he just has no respect for the audience.
Terrible let down.

Most British motorbikes - they were mostly worn out by the time I tried them, but you really can see why the Japanese took over. Unreliable, leaky, vibratory museum pieces, bad brakes, marginal lights.

Went to NY with my family, like some have said, bits that were supposed to be amazing we're just a bit.... Crap y'know? Statue of Liberty, seen it so many times, time square, seedy. The people selling calendars at ground zero site was a bit awful.

Other bits are cool though.

Grand Canyon - big but you've driven through miles of canyons to get there, and you can't do much but have a ten minute look at the thing, then back in your car for a 600 mile drive to somewhere more interesting. Vegas as it effectively closed at 2am. Norway was just stoopidly expensive; £30 for a 9" pizza, and £10 for a small beer. Hertz wanted £1,000 for three days hire car - a Fiesta at that.

Cornwall - don't get it at all.

Big fan of Talking Heads back in the day, but saw David Byrne in concert once and it all seemed overly staged and a bit boring.

Best was Oregon. Understated and lovely.

Iceland was awesome - really beautiful women.

Having said I was underwhelmed by it I don't understand anyone who does nothing more than step a few metres away from the car once they're there (something like 90% of visitors). Walking just a short way down is worth it, we went down as far as Plateau Point

You most certainly can do a lot more than that if you do your research.

There's the Havasupai gorge trail which I always wanted to do. A multi day walk, you do have to book though as the natives don't like too many tourists.

I disagree. When I last went, we walked down the Angel Trail. Once past all the mule trains, it gets you right into the Canyon. We camped back at the top that night. Once the huge majority of tourists have gone, there's only a few people you share the sunset with, and the following subnrise. Truly amazing colours.

Sydney Opera House - grubbier and smaller than I was expecting

Statue of Liberty (although loved NY / Manhattan). Small and far away (ok, that might have been me :-))

Hollywood (inc. sign) - pretty seedy, although I did get in to the LA vibe after a while

Florence - packed with euro school kids, although granted its objectively beautiful, but I couldn't summon up any wow.

Mona Lisa - small and a crowd 10 people deep to get any where near it. Sure its a nice painting

Dylan Moran live - like he was phoning it in

Scallops

On One 456 - just scaffolding pipes welded together to look like a bike frame

ipads - Not an apple hater as such, but I'm using one at work at the mo and find it underwhelming, bordering on frustrating.

Need to go and balance this out with a few positive comments on the other thread!

We did the North Rim bit, walked around for several hours; as much as we were allowed to do really - November so pretty cold and the visitor centre was closed, as was the accommodation. Wife was really impressed, and still talks about it. But I just couldn't get my head around the scale of the place. Found arches etc. to be much more accessible - even called my daughter Page, so ya boo snubs!

Not really one for being wowed by things, but Red Square in Moscow is quite hilariously underwhelming. You have in mind images of Soviet-era May Day parades, but when you get there you're left wondering whether they had to make replicas of everything in miniature to fit it in...

Quite where that German bloke found enough space to land a light aircraft I don't know!
