I've got a website built with Wordpress that I want someone to look at before I make it public - it has a Maintenance Mode plugin running at the moment while I build. I just want them to look at the site.

I've found this plugin. http://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/hide-my-site

Is it going to do what I want it to? If not, what's the best way?

This is the one I use:

http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-maintenance-mode/

As with a lot of plug-ins it looks complicated to start with but its really dead simple. When enabled it will display a holding page to everyone else, but you will see your full sit ... so you can test/make changes in real time to your site but the rest of the world will only see the holding page.

CSS Style: In this drop down box you can select a picture/design for the maintenance page.

Heading, Text, etc: You can enter a custom message - remember to click Save at the bottom 🙂

Also remember, to test its working/enabled use a different browser, if you open a new tab in the same browser Wordpress will display your normal website to you as your already logged in as admin.

Its easy honest, you'll see 🙂

Don't think that's possible with the standard maintenance mode plugins.

They require you to set them up with the lowest role at least: 'Contributor' – somebody who can write and manage their own posts but cannot publish them.
But they'd still see some parts of the admin.

I use this one on a client's site - no need to give access to the back end

Whilst we're on... any good ideas for sharing draft content?
I've added a Reviewer user but seems they need to have at least Editor privileges. I trust them and all, but they might be tempted to meddle and one of the higher-ups is too busy/lazy to start logging in. Ta!
