Thought I'd post on here before calling someone out.

A few weeks ago the boiler started making noises, had a read on the net and ended up unblocking the plastic vessel that the condensate drains into before going in the waste pipe. It was clogged up with a dark gritty substance, anyway, once cleared the noises stopped and boiler worked fine until last weekend.

It started making noises again and for some reason it had stopped draining the condensate away, as if there was an air lock in that vessel. Got it working but the same thing has happened again today, this time there is some more sludge in there but not enough to block it..

Outside waste pipe is definitely not frozen btw

Is this an air lock somewhere or does something need cleaning further up the system?

cheers

Andy

Condenser disintegrating (acid erosion so the sludge is metal and water)?

used to get load of grey grit in our gas boiler - man who serviced it used to day 'they all do that'.

Not sure if it's tru with the newer ones, though.

when was it last serviced?

ok, thanks for the replies!

The sludge does seem metallic, hasn't been serviced for a few years so think I'll get it booked in!

The grey grit is from when the Heat exchanger is blasted during manufacturing, It is in every trap when you service the Bosch boilers.

Firstly you shouldnt realy touch a boiler unless your Gas safe registered, the condensate trap needs filling with water before you put it back or gases can escape through it and you may get on air trap stopping the syphoning action

The boiler will shut down automaticaly if the condensate is blocked also make sure your pressure is at 1 bar on the guage this will shut the boiler down or not let it get above a certain temp

Hope this helps, Bosch do a really good service its worth having it checked out properly as its gas, electrics, water, fire and gases in a box on a wall in your house
