Finally cleared enough of the attic to work in the area where I want to put the extractor fan and discovered...

...an extractor fan!

This is good in that all of the wiring is in place but is bad because the old fan is behind the bathroom tiles so cannot be used.

I think I should be able to use the wiring though as it appears that the bathroom light switch has all the wires needed to run the fan. The plan is to replace the old fan with a new one and just reuse the wiring.

The old fan will be disconnected at the switch in the attic and the new one wired in there. Easy.

The problem is I cannot tell which of the three cables in the attic (A, B, C)connect to which cables in the current light switch (1, 2, 3).

If I put a double switch in to replace the current single switch I assume I will get 2 x L1 and L2 to connect to.

Is the diagram below correct?
Does the orange wire connect to L1 or L2 at each end?
Does the Red previously blanked wire connect to L1 or L2 on the new switch.

We want the light and the fan to work separately with one switch just controlling the light and one switch just controlling the fan.

Get a registered spark in have it done correctly, I own a set of pliers but wouldn't ask a dentist how to remove a tooth ๐Ÿ˜‰
