I’ve seen this Q asked before, but couldn’t find it (because search is shite).

Site blanks and reloads every few minutes.
Site fails to load at all, occasionally per hour.
But only on a phone browser.

A minor issue in the grand scheme of things but it makes me leave the site a lot.

How long until someone tells you it’s your own fault? And not happening anyone else.

It’s got really bad the last few days again. The stw video pop up is a nightmare too

Works fine for me. Android/Chrome.

Seems to me you're barely getting value for money...

It has always been terrible on whatever iPhone I have. Phone is never more than 2 years old as it’s upgraded through work.

Nowhere near as bad when logged in though, so I guess all users need to purchase a membership 🤪😀

Works fine for me on iPhone and iPad….ish.
Every once in a blue moon clicking a forum thread doesn’t do anything, close it down and try again and it works.
But this is a very rare event.

OK using Chrome on Android.  Maybe post up your phone/browser to give tech some info

Another happy Android user, although it did take a while to get used to a new phone - as did eBay 🤔

I find it depends on the browser. It works better on some than others and one might work ok on one phone but not another. This isn't unique to STW so I always have a few different browsers on my phone. Maybe try another browser. I appreciate this isn't a "fix" but it is quick and easy to try and not that much of a pain

Fine here on S22 Ultra using *checks phone* Edge. Always a bit more sketchy if I get logged out though.

Opera on Android.

403 Forbidden error.

I can switch to the desktop site, but that is pretty useless for phone browsing.

having become a full member a month ago, it helps hugely, a lot of the slowness and general s..tness was down to full page ads making the site unusable

I print out the pages I want to read at home, and then take them with me to read on the bus. It works quite well and I recommend it to anyone having troubles at the moment.

Seems a bit of a drag. I simply ring up Singletrack Towers and get whoever answers to read them down the phone to me, complete with made-up funny voices.

Just as an experiment I logged out so that I could get the true sponger experience. Even that isn't too bad - yes, the ads are annoying, but not the worst I've seen. There were some blank spaces as ads took time to load, but blank space is quite easy to ignore. Overall, if I couldn't afford to pay, I think it seems acceptable.

<edit> although there do seem to be some more fundamental issues with the site today - I've had 502 - Bad Gateway on the laptop, and some very long waits for page loads on the phone </edit>

Tom is doing some database remapping today which is slowing things down. That won't be for much longer. Sorry for that. Also, I've turned off the full page ad that appears once per session when navigating to a new page. It earned quite a bit but the user experience isn't worth it.

Mark - it’s not just today, it’s been a problem forever. And the thread has started complaining about ads, but that’s not the problem.
On iPhone - the page will regularly and randomly disappear and reload or disappear and fail to reload with a ‘server error’.
For me today this has happened 5 and 1 times respectively. One of those was just now while typing this.

Is this a common known problem?

It's not common as far as I know. Sometimes the ads can cause issues with a page refreshing itself, which is a known problem with Google supplied ads (programatic) - but it should be rare.

Sporadic here on iP13 Pro. Happens a lot on the certain threads, eg Ukraine, making it completely unusable until some random time in the future.

The 502 errors come and go. I've occasionally dropped an email to tech just to highlight it.

Iphone and chrome and its a pain. Cant it be set up so I can be logged in on more than one device so I dont have to wade through screen fulls of adverts whilst trying to login

I'm logged in on my phone, tablet, desktop and laptop concurrently. Now that the login seems more permanent I don't think I ever have to login unless I've deliberately logged out.

Yep. Multiple concurrent logins for me too. Doesn't seem to be a problem.

I've been getting logged out a lot the last couple of days oddly.

I say oddly as I have hardly ever had any issues with STW over the years on multiple devices.

Seems ok today so far today though.👍

Pixel 6, Chrome.

I agree with spacemonkey - it seems to be worse on certain threads. If I scroll it crashes.

It’s been a regular problem for me.

Middle of the range Samsung here with Samsung browser. Works perfectly all day every day.

Maybe I need an iPhone for the full experience.

It's the full page ads that only appear when you're a free member. Pay a tenner, get rid of the ads, jobs a goodun

Fine on Firefox iPhone 13 mini... when logged in. Sometimes people's photos don't load, but that may be network issues.

I pays my money and don't find it too bad. However, just lately, I can't post a link to a pic from my phone - paste the url into the pop up box and it disappears, the box stays blank

I had this all the time, then became a member and it all works fine. Look at everyone who says they’re not having any problems, they all seem to be full members.

Prior to paying I found Safari on iPhone worse, slightly better using Chrome.

I’ve been a member here since before the magazine

Never had a problem. My only complaint would be being logged out say once a fortnight

Currently chrome on iOS. But I go all the way back to opera on a non touch screen Nokia

works fine on Opera on android. 🙂

It went slow/annoying the other day but I think there was a message that they were doing some upgrades, hence it was a bit choppty.

I nearly always use my iPad when browsing and checking out STW, but hadn’t bothered with my new phone, so I’m replying on my phone now.
Can’t say I’m seeing any particular issues, I’m using Firefox with DuckDuckGo on my iPhone and iPad - I used to use Brave, but there’s an issue where the Privacy and Transparency thing at the bottom would just freeze the page after tapping the Manage Preferences button. Doesn’t happen on Firefox, or Safari and Ghostery, AFAIK, I don’t tend to use either of those.

Seems to be fine on the phone, though. I am a paying member as well, just because my security systems block ads.

I've been getting logged out a few times over the past couple of days (mobile & desktop) which is a new one for me.
