Chucking out my CD's today?

I'm moving house in a few weeks, so getting on with the packing up. Been worrying over my CD's for a while...

The idea was bin them all, not used one in years. Don't even have a CD player anymore.

Started off one at a time but soon found myself reminiscing... Oh that's a good album, etc.

Ended up just piling them in a box which I then dumped in to the bin.

Now I'm worried I've gone to far...

I moved 3 months ago - couldn’t bring myself to do it!

They’re in the attic of the new house.

I even kept my T’Pau one! 😬😬

Even Music Magpie don’t want a lot of them - I got loads of ‘we’re not interested in this title’ when I did it as an experiment.

I've dwindled mine down almost to zero kept a few limited runs it's a crap format to cherish no gatefold artwork or vinyl sleeves to sniff. (We've all done it)

We've been hoovering up CDs from charity shops and Music Magpie, probably got over a couple of thousand on custom built shelves.

What you don't want someone will gladly take.

Funnily. I’ve got loads of vinyl but no record player and started buying the CDs of them all.
(Got a CD player and one in the car). Prefer having physical copies that I can rip than having digital only.
Summary. Got any good ones (open ended question - so let’s just say Metal) 😀

Charity shop, or a thrift group. Please don't 'bin' them.

Charity shop, or a thrift group. Please don’t ‘bin’ them.

Admittedly I've only tried one 'chain' of shops (Highland Hospice) but they actively discouraged me bringing them in when I enquired.

I am currently awaiting inspiration about what I can do with them with a laser cutter or cnc router. Or maybe a 3d printer to print widgets to hold them together.

There is probably some sort of artwork you could create of the 'sleeves' that in a giant framed collage could sum up your former life.

CDs will 100% be worth keeping. Look at vinyl, cassette...people will want physical media.

As a I've. Loving picking up great CDs for 5 for a £1 at the charity shops.

About 5 years ago, I wire my "screamadalica" t shirt to work. Thinking I was Uber cool. Until a wean came up to me and said "yeah man, that's a classic album" 😥😥😥

About 15 years ago I burnt all CDs onto a NAS, kept the CDs and threw all the boxes and paraphernalia away. Up in the attic in 2 cd cases now.

I’ve already mentioned T’Pau - there’s also a Five CD featuring one of the finest pop songs ever made!…

I was thinking the same thing. Full Moon Fever doesn't deserve to be in the bin!

See ... That's the rose tinted specs coming out again. It was an all or nothing decision! Personal favourites were "the orbs adventures beyond the ultra world" or the first Renaissance album or the "teavendale & mcreery" mix from the tunnel album in '96.

But these are all online now...

I did this a while ago got rid of a load on music magpie and got a minimum of £1 for each then decided to get rid of the rest and was offered 15 pence so gave them to charity. Now just use Apple music and have never regretted getting rid of the CD's

Sounds unnecessary harsh, was meant to be funny! Some of mine would be suited too if it helps.

I ripped all mine about 10 years ago.
Decided to only keep those that were limited edition artwork or special cases etc.

Still have 3 full boxes of CDs in the attic (about 900 in total I think). One of which is full of keepers. The other two are "ready to go to the tip".

(I still have a CD player and may move them all back downstairs one day...)

Use them to scare the pigeons away from the veg patch.

Especially that DJ Aligator dude. He looks scary.

You have to hang on to the Kate Bush for at least another 15 minutes, to show your cred to all the kids who just got into her after Stranger Things.

If the first Renaissance album was the Sasha and Digweed mix album with 3cds in a brown cover, it was worth over £100 the last time I looked.

Will never part with my CD collection.

I ripped all of mine a long time ago but I still can't bring myself to get rid. So many good memories, I could still tell you where I got most of them, or times when I listened to them, or when I saw the band... MP3s and such are great but they'll never have you going, hmm, the first counting crows album, I got that in a 3 for £15 sale in HMV Edinburgh along with Troublegum by Therapy and Fear Emptiness Despair by Napalm Death, and then having to play them both, and then you're off onto Drink The Sunshine by Symposium because you remember the cover and you played it so many times and man the b-side Disappear is great and you got that on the same day as you finally got the "ltd edition" of Carter USM's worry bomb that you could still buy a decade on because it was the least limited edition ever and of course that makes you want to listen to All Pop No Star by the Slingbacks who supported Carter the first time you saw them and now you've got an erection because of how Shireen Liane sings her vowels. Hunhhh-uhhhhnnnhuhhh

That reminds me. Batman hit me over the head with a porcelain teapot and shouted “T’Pau!”

I said “Don’t you mean ‘Kapow!’?
“No” he said “there’s china in my hand.”

Recently ripped all my CD albums, but can't (yet) bring myself to also ditch the actual physical CDs.

Should really do the same with my CD singles, but that's a whole other level of task...
