I suspect way back in the mist of time it was used to show status and to hide blemishes and highlight beauty... clearly it took off. Now it is socially the thing to do, but you are right some women look fab without BUT also many do not... I remember waking up the next morning and thinking who is this f-ugly girl, beer is a dreadful poisen, haha.
I like a woman who looks natural, truth is thats usually just very good use of makeup. haha.
If my wife didn't spend ages on her hair and make up of a morning I'd have an hour less on my bike before she wanted to do something with 'our' day...

Why do men use hair gel?
My missus hardly ever wears makeup. I think its because she has naturally good skin (no big pores, scars etc).
If your English I think you cane wine/booze/smoke/fatty food and it shows on your face. I know this does on mine- the skin on my face looks ****ed 😆 so imagine a white female- same. Light makeup masks/improves.
What is tragic when girls really cane the goodlife and have to wear lots to hide panda eyes, cheeks etc. I know one girl like this. She has a very unhealthy lifestyle and bad skin and shes only 32 😯
Why do men have beards, or get their hair done nice instead of a number 2, or get tats, or wear clothes that don't come from ASDA? What's that about?

I don't wear foundation as I sweat too much, but do use eye make-up to try to make my eyes look a little less like piss-oles in the snow 😀
My OH has nice skin tone so doesn't need makeup, occasionally she'll put a bit on and thats fine.
These mothers you see taking their kids to school caked in orange pollyfilla or the shop assistants who look like they've had 3 coats of chalk paint, just NO! It looks bloody awful and unnatural, more like a mannequin than a human.
I blame the beauty industry with its unattainable ideals of how a woman should look and if they don't then they're unattractive ugly skanks. 🙄
I believe they have free choice these days. Perhaps they even choose to, is there an expectation that they will, maybe, but do they have to bow to this expectation, nope.

My wife's great looking and in my eyes doesn't need to wear makeup. Yet if I were to compliment her on not wearing it or not needing to wear it she'll just interpret it as me having a dig at her for some reason so I just don't bother now. I think the reason women wear makeup is that other women are so catty that they feel they have to.
Women are the ones who perpetuate their own insecurities. Look at the way magazines or TV shows such as Fashion Police have a go at women who leave the house looking anything less than fully made up.

To a very large but not quite complete extent, this.
If our balls were on display through tight clothing, firstly there would be plenty of padded undies for sale and lots of men would have cosmetic enlargement.
On Sunday I was sat outside a cafe in my lycra with my meat and two veg on display. I really didn't like it, especially after a caught a girl/where she was looking.
So I don't envy girls having to pad their bras or put makeup on.
That's the point though I think, they don't have to. Anyone, male or female, comfortable in their own skin that doesn't care what others think wouldn't feel the need to try and improve their appearance.
But everyone cares what others thinks.
REGARDLESS of what you say otherwise why would you buy decent clothes, worry about dirty on your car, your windows looking clean on your house etc etc?
I wear cheap-a$$ clothes and my car only gets cleaned when it goes in for a service. Mrs Wilko cleans the windows, as long as I can still see through them they're fine in my book 😉
Hora's right, but it's kind of sad that we feel that way but also kind of good that we can all choose to do what ever the hell we like*.
