Elfin - you just like Astons because James Bond has one.

😀 Makes them sexy!

Who drives an Aston Martin? James Bond.

Who drives a Maserati?

See?

You have less than no idea. And style? Errrmmm...

No you're wrong. The Maserati is a nice looking car, granted, although the hard top is far nicer than the contravertible. But it's whole image is a bit, well, mleh. It doesn't look quite aggressive enough to be a 'sports car', in spite of that grille. Just looks like a spensive executive car, nothing more.

Trouble is, cars these days tend to be based on the optimum aerodynamic shape, and as such there's little flair and character in a lot of car designs. Gone are the days when car designers could come up with wild and wonderful creations. Blandness prevails. I want something that makes me go 'phwooar' or 'oooh' or 'mmmmm'. Hardly any cars these days do that for me.

See, WCA isn't buying a new car cos he wants practicality, or optimum performance, or anything like that. He wants something silly fast, comfy and lovely. Dunno, but that Maserati just seems a bit diluted, a bit watered down. Prettier than his Merc though. That's not difficult.

My investigations have revealed that there are few really sexy cars these days. It's a shame. Seems that the most exciting thing about a car these days is it's spec sheet, not it's design. 🙁

The Maserati "Birdcage" - a wee bit tricky for most to sit comfortably in...

My issue with car design is that wheels are getting bigger and bigger. The current 5 series looks "wrong" with anything less than 19" wheels - which are weaker, more crashy and need daft tyres.

Audi are equally guilty of this massive wheel craze. 17" used to be big - now it's "too small" for many cars. That's not right. Big wheels have no positive effects other than looks.

James Bond isn't real you know...

But I prefer black.

My wife has a black car - the only reason I didn't choose that.

Sorry, but that's what they look like to me.........

Mine looks more like this...

TTs are good looking cars - that cannot be disputed.

My brother's TT was black. MkI, 225bhp with the big chromed wheels (5 spoke I think). It was a company car.

Looked fantastic when it was clean, but drive it 2 miles down the road and it looked rubbish - showed the dirt horrendously.

My dad always used to say that red was his favourite colour for a car and I must be getting old as I am starting to agree with him. Far too many bland colour palettes for cars these days - black, dark grey, mid grey, light grey, silver, blue, red.

A mate of mine had a '98 Escort GTI in red - used to polish it regularly with decent Simoniz & when he got rid of it around about 2004 it still looked bright red.
Vauxhall red seems particularly prone to fading (and their black plastic prone to going sun-faded grey).
