What did I miss? There's a crown of people outside a Vodafone shop with some chant that I can't actually make out. What did I miss?

I think it goes something along the lines of "We dont understand the UK tax code in respect of overseas earnings but we think something's fishy and business deserves a good kicking, and anyway we havent bothered to invest in a pension for our old age like all those other people who's pension pot is invested in Vodafone and BP and the Banks and all those other nasty businesses that increase their pension values when the companies are profitable. And we want it now!"

iirc it was more along the lines of vodafone have a 6bn tax bill related to the of purchasing a german phone company

then some big bods at vodafone explain to the tory treasury over a few bottles of 1945 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild Jeroboam and some poached yangtzee river dolphin that its only actually 1bn

so the treasury say 'oh ok we will scrap child benefit, sell off the nhs and make 1/4 million civil servants redundant to make up the rest then'

massive tax avoidance and support for th3 tory party, They have then done a dfeal with the taxman to pay a small fraction of the tax they should have with honest reporting. What thay have done is taken all their profits overseas.

So a company that bankrolls the tory party pays very little tax, has done a cosy deal with the taxman and yet we are facing massive cuts - nice

And a few days later Gideon is in India "promoting" Vodafone. Strange eh?

TJ - voda bankrolling the tories ? Got some backup link for that ?

Here's voda's words on political support/donations:-

http://www-pp.vodafone.com/content/index/about/sustainability/approach/stakeholder_engagement/public_policy.html

"Political donations
It is Vodafone’s Group policy not to make political donations or support particular party political interests."

Are they lying ?

They are probably chanting about how very excited that they've had a mast on the top of our silo for 10 years and in all that time the electricity meter for it has not worked properly!

Thought that might be short lived as I have had a data logging ammeter on it for the last year so they are going to very shortly going to receive our "estimated" bill

They are quite welcome to contest the figures, but its going to cost them lots to remove & find another 38 meter high building on the edge of a big city :p
