Not f***ing likely.

Best day to reopen the pubs? On a football Saturday of course!! Especially when the great British nation has been deprived of the great British boozer for three months.

Have you seen the shit they left behind on Bournemouth beach last week?

We live in Chester which is right on the border. I think there may be a Welsh invasion on Saturday.

Don’t ancient bylaws allow you to shoot them with crossbows after midnight, or something?

That should greatly enliven the 3am fights outside the kebab house, of which there will be many

If those bye-laws allow for shooting tory politicos with crossbows, I'm in.

That's a common misconception........ we're actually allowed to behead them.

Not a chance! I've seen some of the measures in place that local pubs have put in place near us, It's not worth the effort.
TBF me & the Mrs only go to the pub to eat out anyway.

I honestly wonder if Bojo looks at how well Trump is doing and feels compelled to try and catch up - does seem we're overly keen to kick off a 2nd wave / relight the first one.

Me too. I fear the 'Spoons end of Foregate Street will become the badlands. Even more so than usual.

Looks like Wales pubs may open on the 13th. We can just get back to our van then, but the site has a pub. The site is currently in a state of shock at Welsh Govt's tweet about the pubs this morning as they aren't sure what to do - busily looking at table services, 2m social distancing and outside only.

I won't be going near it - there will be a bunch of retired 'hiss heads' from 'Ingerland' all getting ship faced. We've got some heavy boozing OAP's on our site, never mind locals, and those from other sites. Knowing the site owner, Mr 'Tight Arse' it will be open.

The Friday night when 'lockdown' was announced, the pub was rammed with them - I had to go in the pub to find the site owner (he was getting hissed) as all our electrics had failed. I'd already decided I wasn't going near pubs, and it was full of vulnerable people.

Nope.

Not least because since getting Coronavirus, one pint is about my limit.

But also because my local is a good old fashioned, cramped, low-ceilinged, slightly-rowdy-at-the-weekends, boozer.

I love it, but I'm not gonna be in there the first weekend. Or the second.

Which is why this is the very first line of my opening post - "Obviously none of you STWers in Wales or Scotland".

No f***ing way.  I reckon Sun morning's news will be full of incident, loads of people driving home pissed because it's not safe to get a taxi or a bus, people fighting in the streets etc.  It will bring out the knobs in droves 🙁

The taverns are full of gadabouts making merry this eve, and though I may press mine face against the window like an urchin at a confectioners, I am tempted not by the sweetmeats within.

A dram in exchange for the pox is an ill bargain indeed.

Now I'm torn on whether to queue for Primark or the boozer first.

Primark doesn't open until 9am does it? That leaves plenty of time for a couple of 6am swift ones before clothes shopping.

They were queueing before 6am when Primark re-opening in Wales recently, IIRC.

I like your suggestion though.

Doris, can you give a bit more info around this one:

Nope.

Not least because since getting Coronavirus, one pint is about my limit.

(Apologies if I am trivialising something nasty that happened to you, I've no idea how severe it was)

As raised in a previous thread, for the last 3 months I have been completely unable to drink without getting a hangover. One 330ml bottle gives me a headache and wooziness in the morning. 2 makes me feel really rough. I've always been a lightweight, but it's got much worse.
To the extent that I've actually switched to alcohol free beeer.

I've been wondering if I might have had CV, and this is a result of it.

I only know one person whose going out tomorrow and he's going for a meal with his girlfriend. Everyone else can't be bothered with all the restrictions in place (I'm the same as well)

mehr, same here,I'd love to go out for a meal but if that means sitting a plastic box being served by someone wearing PPE with the nearest diners 2m away I'll stick with a take away.

I can't understand why pubs can open but gyms and dance studios can't. I'm sure it would be much easier to maintain social distancing between health conscious and sober people than the idiots likely to be out tomorrow. Plus gyms provide both mental and physical benefits, it's questionable whether pubs provide the former, they definitely don't provide the latter.

Colleague's birthday on the weekend, says he's going to the pub. I said, Portsmouth (nearest city) is considering reintroducing lockdown. He said the virus is mostly made up and nowhere near as bad as made out, and we'll all find this out in the future. He finished with "Mark my words" which I'm pretty sure is David Icke's catchphrase.

I'm sick and tired of the sanctimonious crap being pedaled by the media on this, about wave of drunks flooding the streets on Saturday, about fighting and obnoxiousness. It's pure snobbery.

The vast majority of pub goers are just grateful they can go for a pint or 2, see their mates and perhaps show some support to their local publican. The drunks and the idiots have already seen everyone in the park and in their back gardens. I don't doubt there will be the odd bit of havoc, but it'll be a tiny minority that'll be blow up on the front page of the Daily Mail.

It's like the beaches all over again. People are doing exactly what the government has said it's OK to do and are told they're wrong to do so. If you don't want to go, don't, that's fine, but to be overly judgmental about those that are going is a bit off IMO.

And breathe...

I can’t understand why pubs can open while we’re closing schools (locally - but we’re not the only area).

To the extent that I’ve actually switched to alcohol free beeer.

Tiny Rebel - Clwb Tropica Alcohol Free - recommended.

People are doing exactly what the government has said it’s OK to do and are told they’re wrong to do so.

They are getting told a lot of things by the government, one of which is PARTY ON! People can express their concerns and suggest a steady and careful opening up of the trade (or that it should perhaps be delayed), these ideas aren’t automatically ‘overly judgmental’ because they are at odds with one of the government’s messages.

@thegeneralist oh, that's interesting!

I had 3 or 4 days of fever etc, and since then it's been 12 weeks of really lingering fatigue. I can potter about the house and manage a walk around the block, but it's a struggle - this week I've even had to have a lie-down on my lunch break, I've been so tired (my job only involves sitting at a desk in the spare room!).

But for some reason, booze now goes to my head more quickly. Normally it's not unheard of to drink half a bottle of wine in the evening and next day I'd shake off any grogginess pretty quick. Since CV, anything more than one glass, or one 330 beer, and I really feel it, and start feeling rough (not just the next morning). I've kind of lost the taste for it, too - normally I'd have to decide not to drink any more because that's the sensible thing to do. The last 3 months I finish my 1 glass of wine and then put the kettle on, I just don't want any more. I miss being able to settle down for the evening with a few glasses!

Post viral fatigue and alcohol don’t mix well, sadly. My other half experienced this (not due to this virus), hence us having tried a fair few low and no alcohol beers. That Tiny Rebel is the favourite so far.

Pretty sure the Goverment can't make it's mind up, "Be aware", "1m+", "Avoid public transport", but go to a crowded pub and get pissed...

If they were really serious they'd mandate masks in all public areas, but they're switched to the 'just ignore it and it'll go away' strategy.

Just heard on the radio that the gov has had to clarify pubs will only be allowed to open from 6am tomorrow. Apparently some wanted to open at midnight!!! FFS. This isn't going to end well 😂

It might be ok but so far the whole thrust of the government is trying to lay blame at the public's feet by giving out mixed and confusing messages. They are also ignoring the advice from their advisors which remains as 2m social distancing and wash your hands.

Somehow going to the pub doesn't fit the scientific advice as opposed to the political advice.

It's just a case of passing the buck. "We allowed you to go out for a pint and you took it to excess, it's all your own fault and nothing to do with us".

My regular pub isn’t opening until the 7th, so I’ll be going next Friday. It’s very controlled, I have to text a time in advance when I’ll be turning up, with what I’ll be drinking, taken to a table on arrival and drinks brought to the table. I have no issues with any of these things, it means not having to stand at the bar for ten minutes waiting to be served, and getting table service! What’s not to like?

Yeh hopefully something that will stay will be table service like the continent. Standing at the bar trying to get served is pretty rubbish when you can get table service.

Anyway no pub plans for the moment! Will wait and see how things go. Only tend to go for family meals or the odd work so out so happy to be patient and wait.

most of the local pubs we supply are opening on monday or tues (hants), gives owners and staff a week to get used to new ways of working . Its going to be carnage in the jdw area of the market . be fine for an hour , then chaos as alcohol fueled idiocy commences.

I think Houns had it right on page 1 for me:

Absolutely no chuffin chance. Pubs will be a nightmare and full of the worst type of people and once people get pished social distancing will go out of the window, tempers will rise and it’ll all kick off.

A mid ride, mid week, mid afternoon pint in a country pub in a few weeks time? Definitely

Trouble for me is that I live in a relatively nice village about 5 miles outside the Leicester Lockdown. When our pubs open tonight I fully expect a lot of Leicester's finest to descend on them via back roads. I also expect a lot of them will be driving back pissed about midnight.

IF the police patrol the roads out of the city they will end up turning a lot of people back in the late afternoon / early evening. They would also be able to fulfill their drink-drive arrest quota for the year between 11pm and 1am.

But they won't. So what's the point?
