[update] on reconnecting to itunes it's decided to restore from a backup.

I'll try again later and actually watch the progress messages then, shall I?

Thats what mine said but it was actually building the new os fine behind that message - the restore completed and it was ios5

Is iMessage actually any different to WhatsApp (which has the advantage that it works cross-platform to Android users).

My iTouch stopped updating after OS4.1 as my computer (it's old but it's good) is only running OS10.4. Am I missing anything exciting?

Right done, I've lost my music for now as Windows is being shit but thought no matter as waiting to hear of my new phone is coming tomorrow or not. When me Mac book comes I'll shift all my music to there anyway and use that from now on.

So far seems to run ok on the 3GS and like the new pop thing. Yeah not bad.

The new music icon is incredibly ugly. Looks like it was designed by a 5 year old in MS paint.

Okay. iPhone is back after much faffing with renaming backup files. Apps missing, but hey ho, can easily enough redownload.

Now need to try to figure if iCloud can be used to give two people who share an Apple ID different Reminders!

So much for my smart-arsery of waiting a bit.
Error 1602 followed by lots of Error -50.

Something to do with USB timeouts apparently (which is odd given it usually syncs with this cable in this port just fine).

Currently on my fourth attempt at a complete Restore To Factory then Restore from Backup. Keep getting Error -50.

Quite likely I'm going to be left with an empty factory-reset phone!

Long enough to know the servers wouldn't be too busy. It downloaded fast enough (20 mins or so).

Had an OTA update on my HTC done in less than 2 min.

I rather suspect that wasn't adding 200 new features though.

True, but previous larger updates were as simple, without "bricked devices" 😉

Yes - no problem. You can have multiple Apple IDs and share or have differnet ones for different services. (ie have a shared one for your store account for music and app purchases and individual ones for contacts etc).

A different problem - we sync our phones to the same computer but theres no longer any way to maintain separate contact lists (you can't sync/link a desktop app to >1 iCloud account)

Well, I gave up last night, and had another go this morning, as I'm on an afternoon shift, figuring that all the Americans would be asleep, and mine went fine, backed up, verified software, installed, reinstalled apps and music, and all seems to be going swimmingly at the mo. Oddly, my phone seems to be picking up a stronger wifi signal now, and it seems to be running faster, too. If I want to move or delete an app or web link, holding the home button stabilises straight away, whereas before it took several seconds for things to stop 'wobbling'. Updated Lion tonight to get full iCloud compatability, and that seems to have gone without a hitch too. Only thing I can't find an update for is iPhoto, which isn't listed in software update as installed software, for some reason.
Apparently the demand last night on Apple's servers nearly broke the Internet, ISP's all over the place were reporting huge spikes in demand.

My issue wasn't demand Count. It downloaded quickly and verified. Just seemed to be bugs in iTunes.

Seem to have got there after many many hours, mainly by fighting what iTunes wanted to do, ignoring the error then manually Syncing.

Is the verification email getting eaten by your spam filters? Do you have a Spam folder you can check?

Got the downloads okay, then had a bit of a squeaky bum moment when I almost managed to delete the contents of my calendar while migrating from MobileMe to iCloud. Largely self-inflicted thanks to not really reading the help article on how to complete the process until after I started having problems!

Don't really see the point of calendar and mail syncing through iCloud, but then I never saw the point of doing it through MobileMe either.

There isnt an update, you need to purchase iPhoto '11. Another £10 expenditure to go with the £21 for lion to make all the new 'free' ios 5 features work. grumble grumble.

You click the 'Reader' button that appears in the address bar.. thing is it doesnt always appear, so I assume safari makes some sort of decision based on the content if it should show the button or not, dont know what this is though.

Oh if you just want to add a site to the reader then just press the Action button like it says (the box with the arrow coming out of it).

If you want a site with full reader capability try Lifehacker.

Graham S - the 'Reader' isn't the 'Reading List', it's a stripped down version of pages (nearly the same as stripping the CSS file, but it also strips other things). To make complex desktop-designed web pages easier to read on the phone. I still haven't found it.

You might need to go to an actual story rather than just the main page.
