I really like Amy Winehouse and Duffy. Definitely my faves at the moment. And I'm sure the rest of STW will be along to back me up 😯

Randy Crawford has the purest voice I have ever heard. Hearing her sing Rainy Night in Georgia made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Of more recent artists I'd say Corinne Bailey-Rae will stand the test of time if she can get over her husbands death and start making great music again.

I really like Alison Goldfrapp but it has to be Ella Fitzgerald, he voice is so gritty and full of emotion its sublime.

Lisa Hannigan's good, there are so many others it's difficult to know where to start. Dusty Springfield, Eddi Reader, Shawn Colvin, Sandy Denny, Tanya Donnely, Emmylou Harris, Gemma Hayes, Patty Griffin, Cerys Matthews, Camille, Bjork, Aimee Mann, Feist, Francoise Hardy, Alison Goldfrapp, Juanita Stein (Howling Bells), the Indigo Girls, Joni Mitchell, Judie Tzuke, Karine Polwart, Kate Bush, Kate Rusby, Kris Delmhorst, Linda Ronstadt, Maria McKee, Sam Phillips, Emily Hayes (Metric), Tori Amos, Laura Marling, Mechanical Bride, The Joy Formidable's singer, Toni Halliday (Curve), Susanna Hoffs/The Bangles...
There are others, but that's a pretty good list of female artists/singers who I love listening to. A few I've even had the great pleasure of meeting, too, like Maria McKee, Amee Mann, Eddi Reader, Gemma Hayes, Patty Griffin, Judie Tzuke and the lovely Kris Delmhorst.
So much wonderful music out there, so little time to listen to it all.

Tori Amos.

Mad as a box of frogs.

But what a voice.

Tracy Thorn, from Everything but The Girl..

Looks like Steven Hendry, but again, what a voice..

Ooh, and who can forget Shara Nelson on Massive Attacks' Unfinished Sympathy...

Shame on the massive for not having Aretha Franklin right up there - so much voice, emotion and nuance. Also Glady Knight, if only for her rendition of Midnight Train to Georgia

Slightly more recently, Heather Small. Shame M-People only really had two popular albums for her to show her talent

Most of the greats already mentioned. Mama Cass would get a vote from me. And fave contemporary singer probably Caitlin Cary - lovely country singer. Ooh! and before i forget, Margeret Fieldler(?) of the band Laika (who seem to have disappeared)....she's kept me warm on many a lonely night. Mmmmm.

Definately Bjork, she just has such a unique voice and expresses so much through her songs. Has worked with some great producers too. Massive fan of Liz Green too, why she doesn't have an album out I've no idea. Great live though. Guessing that Mr Nutt might have seen her at End Of The Road, don't think she's playing this year though 🙁

Brenda Holloway the true queen of Northern Soul takes me back to sweaty smelly nights at the Wigan Casino and standing on the platform of Wigan Wallgate station wired up to the eyeballs waiting for the first train of the morning back to Liverpool.
