Is it the south dales or north dales?

North Dales. Swaledale is the most northerly dale....
Edit: Poss Arkengarthdale is a bit further North.
After that you hit the A66 and you're out of Dales....

I have the south and it's not in that, and I remember seeing some routes around Askrigg/Hawes in the North guide, both of which are just to the south of Swaledale.
