I need to make 4 bushes, approx 5cm long, to take an M8 bolt or similar ... any suggestions where I can get a chunk of nylon or similar material to bodge a set?

Do a google search for "delrin blocks", loads of places around the country and online.

I used to get some off ebay for my lathe although RS components also do some.

+1 for delrin. Hard with a very low coefficient of friction.

(Just a quick Google. Plenty of suppliers out there).
