We could play on the street, in the fields and climb trees,we could cut down trees for bonfire night, we would go blackberrying,walking and cycling, we would build go-carts from pram wheels,sit on a neighbours wall and chat,we respected older people and they respected us, if a policeman came along we moved along,we had no 24 hr tv, computers hadnt been invented that people could afford,few had cars,summers where hot and sunny, winters wet and plenty of snow,we had mums and dads who lived in the same house as us,and they went to work. But we seemed happy with our lot, What have kids got now, wall to wall tv,obesity,fast food,no jobs, debt,single parent families,living on benefits for being without a job,probably a war with someone in the next few years,and massive unemployment. How things have changed in the last 20 plus years.

Tell me more about 'chucking rocks at coppers' and how 'pervs were dealt with'. That sounds fascinating.

So, life was very different back then to the way it is now, as to the bobby or my old man catching me, I had an escape route, up through the loft out onto the rooftops and away, so they very rarely caught me.

Chucking rocks at coppers (to try and knock their helmet off), was a pretty standard activity amongst most street kids where i was dragged up.

Pervs? One incident that brings this to mind was some old perv trying to get us to go with him under the arches to 'see something' my sister, who was probably a bit more 'perv aware' than me, blew the whistle and a copper got hold of him and literally beat the bastard to the ground and sent him on his way, we never saw him round our way ever again.

Coppers would clout you round the head and send you on your way if they caught you after chucking rocks at them.

So just a clout round the head then.......haha what a larf. I bet you were glad that they didn't 'literally beat you to the ground' before they sent you own your way - like they did to the perv.

Seems like it was a right larf when you were a kid. Shame the pervs didn't get a criminal record though ..... dontcha reckon ?

so basically.. as has already been said.. not much has changed really, other than the superficial..

and as if to prove the point, some people, upon reaching a certain stage of maturity, will freak out big time and apocalyptically bemoan the fate of our youth in predictably exactly the same way that every generation of neurotic men before them has done since time immemorial..

pretty much..
