I used to live over the road from a bloke that had a replica Gulf GT40. He used to race it too. On a sunny weekend you'd hear him crank it over and roll it out of the garage to warm up (It was as rough as a badger's arse until it warmed up) before going off for a drive. I luuuuurved that car. Everyone else hated it. I used to go out and chat to him as he sat there gently revving it up to temperature.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.........

Re: Toyota (And Ford Puma too)
It's not about how much the cars won or how good they look, not at all. It's about what they are, what they stand for too, and a hundred other things that can't be quantified. You've both just totally missed the point of the thread. That's all.
Kato, ones still got the cover on.
Ok, its not a car but it is in the spirit of the post:

To quote King Kenny:

I was just mucking about Mat, I don't get THAT worked up over cars!
The celicas you're looking at are utterly gutless (the newer models, which are indeed chav mobiles). In fact I'd venture to say anything after the GT4 isn't a real celica (and certainly has no racing history to speak of). Certainly the MR2 and Celicas of 96+ are nothing short of eco-boxes.
I see your various race cars and raise you......

Yeah shame group B died but I guess they were losing too many spectators. And crews too. Wasn't it one of the Lancias going off with the death of at least one crew that really shut the book on Group B?
Group Bs were banned just a few hours after the death of Henri Toivonen and his co driver on the corsican rally in an S4. The trophy at the race of champions is named in his honour.
Lord Summerisle - That first pic (2CV's) at Snetterton ya?
I thoroughly recommend people go watch the classic touring car series.
PJ266: yeah, about 9 hours into the 24hr race in 2006 at Snetterton.
I used to love the Sunbeam Lotus and the Opel Ascona 400...
Most successful F1 car of all time... The McLaren MP4/4 of Ayrton Senna...
One of, IMO, the best looking rally cars of all time... The Lancia 037...
Arguably the most successful Group C sportscar of it's time (like the McLaren MP4/4 in 1988, it won all but one race in 1989 in Group C), the Sauber Mercedes C9...
The totally awesome, yet totally bonkers, Mazda 787B with a 4 rotor ****el Rotary engine, that won Le Mans in 1991...
Can't believe nobody has put one of these up yet... An original 427 Shelby Cobra...
A lightweight racing E Type...
And definitely the most beautiful creation ever, as recognised by at least one other person already, the Jaguar XJR13...
That'll do for now whilst I have a think about a few others! 😉
Sorry I dont know how to link pics....
this was a pretty impressive car !
google 'Climb Dance' and download the full movie, still watch it every so oftern, great film.
this one because i built most of it (I acknowledge its pretty ugly and almost looks like a killer whale)

and this one because I spent a summer vacation from uni photographing and measuring the position of all the cable ties etc. and was given a ride on the shakedown run, amazingly fast.

Fiat 131 AbarthEven if you wanted one and had lots of money you couldn't have one...
I actually went to look at a 131 Supermirafiori Sport once. It had just been sold.... 🙁
There can't be many of those left now.....

Cool!
Someone posted a link to Kenny Roberts' TZ750 flat tracker. King Kenny did a few laps on the bike he said "they don't pay me enough to ride" at last year's Indy Mile in Indianapolis (it was on the same weekend as the Indianapolis MotoGP round).
He was only supposed to be doing a few demo laps, as he hadn't ridden the bike for over 30 years and, as he said himself, "a quick practice on the bike would have been a waste of time. Either I'll do it or I won't, but I've got my bone doctor on standby..."
They didn't look like demo laps when he got out there. He was pretty fast. Fast enough to convince Valentino Rossi that his request, made before Kenny's ride, to have a go was maybe a little bit rash! He bottled it in the end, saying "only Kenny can ride this bike..."
