I sold a vacuum online on Facebook of all places.
Demonstrated it when buyer came to collect. Nothing to hide or wrong with it.
Hardly used and as good as new. Just taking up room.
A week later they are moaning about smoke.
I think they jammed the rotating brush and burned the rubber belt out.
It was only £20.
Should I give them their money back and be done with it or say no, you’ve buggered it up.
Some people are arseholes, my preferred option would be to not encourage their behaviour and tell them they broke it, sold as seen in good working order.
Don't encourage that kind of thing, it will make them a worse person.
You will be doing then a favour by saying no.
Sucked up a Chihuahua.
Hmm, I'm torn between:
No - they're obviously scum trying to scam you
Yes - they know where you live + consider it an idiot tax for selling stuff on Facebook
I'd refund them just to save the hassle, it's £20. I wouldn't have sold it in the first place.
.
Refund but make them work for it - they have to bring it round and show you what’s wrong.
Refund but make them work for it – they have to bring it round, at their expense, and show you what’s wrong.
This.
why bring them to your house ? just to prove a point ? Meh, nah.
TBH after dealing with a PITA nutter who bought my wife's old mobile and assuming there's no come-back on FB stuff, I'd ghost the ****ers. Life's too short.
You need to risk assess the amount of noise/inconvenience the buyer can inflict.
Facebook is a little different to ebay and gumtree in that regard, so make the call.
If the risk was anything above low, I'd probably just refund the £20 and move on.
what do you mean ghost P-jay?
what do you mean ghost P-jay?
Block them on FB, don't reply to messages, pretend they don't exist.
They'll eventually get the message.
Or hunt you down and bum your cat.
Tell em if they wanted a vacuum cleaner with a warranty they should've bought one from Currys.
And to sod off.
In whichever order you so desire.
it’s £20. I wouldn’t have sold it in the first place
Selling old stuff is far better than sending it to landfill. If thee's a market for old stuff then why screw over the planet even more?

Because the world is full of ****%%% 🙂
Show them where to get a new belt?
Show them where to get a new belt?
Plenty on Facebook Marketplace 🙂

Perhaps the poster was suggesting they would have just given it away?
the thread title is wrong
he broke his item (that he bought off you)
sucks for him that it broke 😉
Easy fix tbh.
Get said scum round your place.
Place a £20 note on floor and plug hoover in then turn on hoover and watch as they have a dust party whilst red faced.
Then boot the c in the beef flaps!
Get off my estate style.
👍
Thanks for the advice.
Well he came back to buy more stuff from me...
Then I offered to check the vacuum and belt. Told him to clear any hair, string or debris. And to make sure the brush is rotating. Also told him to empty the thing after he showed me pics of it full to the brim!
The vacuum was hardly used as I had a Dyson so looked and work A1 (you can’t use as new on ads for 2nd hand goods I’m told?)
He’s going to check and told me we’ll see.
Well if you haven’t had a vacuum for 6 months, of course your carpet will be full of crap.
I have a video of the (sad I know) vacuum working while he used it on my hallway trying it out.
I guess if I refund him, he did clean my hallway?
I wouldn’t con or rip off anyone but some of these buyers are a PITA while some are fantastic and social.
you can’t use as new on ads for 2nd hand goods I’m told?
You can say what you want on Facebook ads. There's no rules about descriptions and stuff like that.
This filthy carpeted blighter isn't going to get another (decent) vacuum for £20, so he'd be silly to get a refund.
I’ll offer you £70 odd if it’s one of those there Dysons but only if you’ve greased the pastic rollers with a specific bearing grease.
Do we have a deal or do we have a DEAL!
Cause sounds like the pita fbooker had a steal.
The vacuum was hardly used as I had a Dyson..
Says to tdog he's selling (sold) a Dyson. Okey doke.
The vacuum was hardly used as I had a Dyson
Probably a good idea to sell it then, it sounds like it was just gathering dust.
I sold my cordless vacuum yesterday only for the buyer to message me it won’t work.
Would you f’kin believe it.
So she shows it to and tells it will not charge.
Of course it won’t charge, look at the outside cover, it’s got more breaks and fractures than Evel Kinevel!
Her kids (who I used to teach) look sheepish. You dropped it right? Kids nod but their mother says no, it won’t charge.
I gave her money £15 so not a lot and protected my cars on the driveway.
Yes I should have said f*ck off you’ve broken it, sod off. I teach her kids.
I sent it away to the factory for a new case and handle.
She asked me to call her when it comes back and she’ll buy another one from me. Yeah right, I’m posting that one to Mexico, after all the Cartel won’t be bother right?
Yeah I know my fault.
That is a cool story !
😆
Ok the techs said they can’t fix it and they’re sending me a new handheld rechargeable car vacuum.
I’ll give to my Sister for Xmas.
Great more clutter. I was selling things to tidy up.
Maybe I should post it again in Fb... noooo!
