Wylam Brewery and Mordue are two excellent local brewers in the North East. Federation Brewery Ace lager was probably the worst. Long gone thank goodness.

'local' takes on a slightly different meaning when you live out in the sticks, but Bateman's, who brew fantastic beer, and Fulstow Brewery, who brew an epic IPA, are my local brewers of choice.

Living in east Kent I'm totally spoilt for choice. There are microbreweries and micropubs everywhere. My favourite three brewers at the moment are Gadds, Goodies and the Hopdaemon.

I've only ever had Shere Drop though. Really must get to the brewery, or pubs that do more than just that one (bit like Hogs Back, a lot just do Tea... which is alright).

You should also try the Tillingbourne Brewery

[img] [/img]

They also run the stephan langton inn in Friday street. Been there on a few occasions and stopped off for a pint, as there are a few trails from the top of Leith hill heading in that direction.

Wiper and True (Bristol), especially the IPA's. A bit pricey but worth every penny!

Used to be Green King IPA, now it's Sarah Hughes, Holden'so, Bathams (Lamp Tavern ftw) or Ma Pardoes.

Generally drink Cider of Gin these days.

Copper Dragon Golden Pippin is my most local decent ale. Ilkley Mary Jane or the Saltaire Brewary grog also get the thumbs up.

I'm 10 miles from Thornbridge Brewery in Bakewell. Started out as a bit of a hobby brewery from what I know about it but it's now a fairly sizeable heavyweight in the game. Still turns out great range of beer.

The Microbrewery and not so micro brewery are rife in the Shire where I reside. Wiltshire hosts the well known Wadworth brewery in Devizes.
I also socialise with the head Brewer at Ramsbury Brewery. Tibor (no, his mints are not a minty bit stronger) has also just won a first prized gold award for Ramsbury Vodka. well worth a brewery tour and a tasting.

Grew up on Brakspears Ordinary when the original brewery was still in the town - now on the Wimbledon Brewery. It's not bad, but I'm struggling to find a pint as good as Brakspears..

Sold a Fender Strat to the Master Brewer of my nearest brewery a few years back...He smelt iffy/hoppy, his beer is ace tho! 😀

Bit of a bold statement in the badge but camra seemed to rate it.

Tennents Wellhead brewery is about 400 metres from my office.

Their beer is a crime against humanity.

Thankfully Drygate is next door and makes some nice beer.

So I'd a pint of drygate pilsner at the weekend, by god that's awful stuff. if that's your standard take a look at your self! 😆 tennents is a far nicer than the pint of washing detergent drygate served up as lager! brutal, left half the pint.

Less than a pint in our neck of the woods.

So is a 330ml bottle.
For three quid.

Do you wear hi-viz?

You're going to be disappointed in 2 weeks when the reliably mediocre Curious Brew drops through your door! Will be interesting to see what nonsense they come up with story-wise... on their website they claim "We wanted better tasting beer and cider that had balance, taste, style and originality. We made it using our winemaking skills" which is just bollocks because it's all contract-brewed in the next county!

Oh, and reported. 😉

I'm a Beerbods member too and it is ace, less than a pint in the pub, delivered to your door and with the story behind it and some banter on a thursday night discussing on Twitter.

My adopted county of Norfolk now has more breweries than any other county and Norwich styles itself as best town for beer in UK, next village to me has Beeston brewery with the ace "Worth the Wait" a lovely golden ale.

No it isn't.
At three quid for a 33cl bottle, it's over five quid per pint.

some banter on a thursday night discussing on Twitter

Get thee to a pub, where I assure you there will be banter.

To be fair the price isn't the issue (you can't really compare craft beer prices with real ale) although the selection is a bit "meh" (they seem to do a lot of stuff that is pretty common or can even be bought in supermarkets!).

Agree about RL banter being better though, fortunately I have a great bottle shop which is only a 30s diversion from my cycle commute route! Plus I get to pick which bottle I buy!

Dunno what any of this has to do with local brews though!!

Of course you can they're the same product, it's just that one has added marketing.

it's a mix of 33/ 500 bottles. beer in my local is over £4.

not sure thats fair. I'd say the majority you can't get in the supermarkets, local beer shop maybe. Ocassionly supermarket stuff in there but not loads.

Yes, to be fair I meant that you'd see them commonly in bars/bottle shops and the odd few you'd find in the supermarket.

I was just going off the three bottles showing on the front page which are all 33cl.
They're the bottles shown below the picture of the middle aged man, sat on the floor alone except for his wood burner and apple product.
Maybe he's browsing STW, maybe he's enjoying the story behind his one solitary ale, for which he has paid in excess of £5 per pint for.
It's hard to tell which as you are distracted by his slightly dishevelled appearance and the sadness that is so obviously hiding behind his eyes.
An Orange Five could so easily be just out of frame, the colour of which matters not.

The boxes are more 330ml than 500ml, but they're also often stronger beers that would be more expensive in a pub anyway. Last week was a 330, but the two before that were 500.

The good news is, nobody is being forced to buy the product/service so everybody doing so is happy with the price. As I understand it, they're currently gaining subscribers at a decent rate, so they're doing something right.

From that beerbods site, next weeks Fyne Ales, Sanda Black IPA were in my Tesco for a bargain £1 a bottle at the weekend along with their Sanda Blonde. Very nice, I bought some of each. This was probably only in Scottish stores.

I'm perfectly happy for people to spend in excess of FIVE WHOLE POUNDS PER PINT if that's what they want. In fact if people are prepared to pay in excess of FIVE WHOLE POUNDS PER PINT to sit at home with a single bottle of beer for company then they're even more likely to want to enjoy a pint (or more) of lovingly looked after cask conditioned ale in the beautifully social setting of their local public house for considerably less than FIVE WHOLE POUNDS PER PINT.
🙂

Bit of a Mulligan & O'Hare going on in that t-shirt, which I found very distracting.
