I moved in to a 1970's detached house with suspended floor. There's nearly 2 foot of space below the ground floor. I wanted to check the insulation under the floor and went under the house using a hatch in the kitchen.
The ground appears to be ash from a fire.
Was it standard practice to have a fire before building the house?
Seems dry and mould free do that's good.
