Have a big soft spot for well-written offbeat (or not so offbeat) comedies, usually full of pathos. A few immediately come to mind. Check out these?

O’Horten (2007) (you have to see it)

O Brother Where Art Though (2000)

Life (1999)

Burn After Reading (2008)

Sideways (2004)

His Girl Friday (1940)

White chicks
This is spinal tap
Tropic thunder

I don't care if the first one won a razzle or whatever, it's p*** funny scene after another. Terry crews is well funny

Re tropic thunder, I watched it with a girlfriend who didn't laugh once and kept saying it was silly, it was honestly the beginning of the end of that relationship

In a Weekend at Bernie’s style is Men at Work. Something about two bungling fools trying to make a dead man look alive really tickles me. Men at Work has a Vietnam Vet for added hilarity.

Overnight Delivery just for the scenes with the courier “not on my watch”

Pineapple Express or Idle Hands for a great stoner comedy.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Also, following on from death of Stalin

In the loop (Armando ianucci, like a spin off from the thick of it with same actors but different characters plus James gandolfini)

Life Is Beautiful has to be one of the most tragically funny films, it's an Italian comedy about the holocaust. Although not a film The Brink was an awesome mini series, there was supposed to be a second series but Trump became president and the humour cut a little close to the bone

Can't believe no one has mentioned Swingers!

Also try and get a copy/download of Steve Jacksons first movie - Brain Dead.

Loads of good suggestions - I don't think anyone has suggested the Hangover films yet though. Definitely worth a look.

On that note, Clerks.

It's good, but Clerks 2 actually made me LOL more.

I'm not gonna give anything away, but it's not very subtle or family friendly.

Swingers is one of my favourite films but I don't remember it being massively funny.

Did anyone mention Step Brothers?

Ski School. Classic early 90spartyfilmtastic!

Also second Rango. I watched it in utterly bemused joy the other day. SOOOO different to any other ‘kids’ animation film I’ve ever seen. My kids were watching me chuckle more than they watched the film itself. It really tickled me

I watched Booksmart! Exactly what I was after, easy watching and properly funny. It’s basically a girl version of Superbad, but actually quite good.
