I don't have need for a petrol one, but need something with a bit more oomph than your usual Black & decker lawn edger type.
I've got a bank-side in front of my house some 50 feet long that I do three or four times a year.

I've got a ryobi li-ion one that's pretty good. Get an hour of cutting on a charge. Really light and easy to handle.
I got it half price in a b&q sale but not sure if pay full whack for it.
