Now we can fly to Cornwall again ,the search resumes for something for my feet.
Our hotel is on some rocks and to access the beach I have to cross a river. My army boots aren’t tall enough ,so I started to look for wellies that will fit in hand luggage. These tend to have thin soles ,so wouldn’t be too good on rocks. Then things like NBC over boots come up. This led me to think about inventing rubble sack overboots purely to wade through the water.
Most of the boots are thin things for glamorous young ladies to wear at Glastonbury,
Anything else I’m missing ? It has to fit in hand luggage with a weekends worth of clothing and I’m not flying in waders!

Trekking sandal. take your shoes off and put them on to cross the river.
If you are going to buy wellies anyway just buy them there. Halves the number of arguments with the airline about hand luggage sizes.
Anyway, don't the tops of wellies fold over?
Just take a towel from the hotel to dry your feet?

Pair of bin bags or rubble sacks.
Try these, you should look less like an emmet as well.
Edit: I am assuming you are rolling up you clothes inside the wellies when packing.
