We will be in touch
The zoom on my point and shoot camera has finally died, and the camera is telling me it no longer has control over the lens. Its a very old and well worn camera, but now I seem to be left with a pile of interesting electronics and no idea what to turn them into?
I have a functioning:
- LCD screen
- Mic
- Speakers
- Couple small LEDs
- SD card reader/writer
- Battery connectivity
There must be something excellent I can make out of all this?
Maybe you now have an expensive overly large audio recorder?
Bump for the morning shift.
Anyone have any inspiration for me?
you must be able to make a sd card reader that plays films?
Bike cam?
Security camera?
Sounds like a good idea for a website ...

I was thinking of seeing if I could connect the card reader to a microUSB cable and tinker with hooking it up to an android tablet....
Not sure about the Film playing idea. The LCD screen is a low res 3 inch unit.

Bike cam?Security camera?
No control over the lens unfortunately. The lens is a sealed unit and its about the only thing I haven't been able to recover/make functional. (Otherwise I would still have a working camera....)
Paper weight?
or you could engrave your initials on it. Then it would be a personalised paperweight. 🙂

Paper weight?
Its been sitting on my desk as a paperweight for the last two weeks!
It seems such a waste to throw away/recycle such perfectly functional equipment.
Bit confused, can it take pictures at all or not? Presumably if you were dead clever you could get bits from an old manual focus camera and use the lens with the sensor of your camera?

I guess the problem would be that the sensor will be very small compared to film though.
Thanks Grum, thats a really interesting article!
The lens is kaputt, so it cannot take photos. I do think it would be possible to wire in another lens, though I would have to do some reading first. You're right that I would be limited on the size of the lens the sensor could drive.
I was thinking of non-photo applications for the rest of the parts. I already had fun making some loud bangs with the flash capacitor!
