At the beginning of August I have a 9 hour layover in Oslo airport on my way back to LHR. Assuming my bike will go straight through and I won’t have it with me is it worth going into Oslo?
if it is what is the best way to get into the city - is there a train or bus from the airport?
once in Oslo city what are the “must do’s”?
Thanks
Kon Tiki museum and the sculpture park are the 2 obvious highlights

Train direct from airport, +1 for kontiki, Fram/Amundsen and folk museums but if memory serves me right you need to get a ferry to them so might press you for time. We also liked the national museum if you are keen on museums per se.
Train from airport is dead easy, quick and cheap.
Oslo is a really nice city to just wander around and kill a few hours. Loads to see and do around the water. Leccy scooters to get you around are great as well.
Another vote for the sculpture park.
Don't pay the extra for the fast train from the airport - the normal VY one is fast enough.
Kon Tiki is good, Fram is better. They're opposite each other and you can do them on the bus which might be quicker than the ferry (or might not).
Also Munch, National Gallery and Nobel Peace Prize museum which are in the city centre.
There is also a massive Fjallraven shop...

The Resistance Museum used to be really good - I haven't been for a long time, assuming it hasn't changed much.
If using train from airport get on the correct one!!we paid for national one but got on fast one must have felt sorry for us and waved through 😁.
have a walk up the opera house roof and enjoy the refreshing lack of elfin safety handrails warning signs etc
Be careful... They talk funny there. It's like Swedish, but they sound drunk.
Nice people though, great to go out drinking with.

There was talk of changing it, but it was met with a lot of resistance.
Yeah the Kon Tiki museum was good, but also the Viking Ship Museum is rad.
Get the train into town and hang out downtown. You'll find something to amuse you
I agree with all the points above, although if you want to maximise your time it may be worth paying extra for the airport express train (Flytoget).
If the weather’s good another option could be to take a ferry to Gressholmen - there’s a great place to eat there, and some nice swimming. It’s super easy - you just take a ferry from by the city hall. But the swimming in the fjord at Sørenga, which is only a 5 minute walk from the opera house, is also excellent.
If you want to get into nature you can take the metro from the central station to Songsvann station in less than 20 minutes. There’s a nice lake there (more swimming), and it’s easy to head into the forest.
The Holmenkollen ski jump is also reachable by metro, and gives great views of the city. If you’re significantly braver than me you can try the zip wire there.
Or just check out the great art galleries, chilled vibe, and eyewateringly expensive booze…
Before you leave the airport make extra sure you don’t have to collect your bike from the oversized luggage zone. It doesn’t sound as if you will but I had to do this once and it took a while…
And don’t cut it too fine getting back to the airport. I go through Oslo several times a year (I was there last week) and the passport queue on departure is usually okay. However, I nearly missed a flight once thanks to the border check heading home, and things have got slower since EES kicked in…
