I recently got myself a go pro 2 and want want a programme to edit the footage I have
For example text on screen and add music.
Also making the single shots into a slideshow with a fast picture change period
Any advice greatly appricioated

You need to download Cineform from GoPro's website which will spit out the footage in a format iMovie can understand.
Windows Live Movie Maker
I use Cineform to convert timelapse images into one movie file, and Windows Movie Maker to edit the film generally.
WMM has its limitations but its free...
I use VideoPad to edit the raw files from the GoPro so no need to convert first. You can download the free version here http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html This was edited using VideoPad,

No, it's a couple of years old. Might nip out to the Apple store for an update in that case!
