I've been given a big bag of nice coffee beans so I think it's worth investing an a coffee grinder.
They will be used in a Cafetiere so please recommend a decent grinder 🙂

cheers all

I've been using one my Wife bought me from Starbucks for the last ten years and it's nothing special. To be honest, I reckon you can smash up a load of beans without spending a fortune.

If you can afford £40 this is a completely brilliant hassle free way of grinding a specific portion size to a variable level of grind.

We have had one for a couple of years with daily use for both an expresso maker as well as cafetiere and it has worked faultlessly.

We did get ours for £30 in a new year sale but still great value in my opinion.

I will risk a flaming, and say for a cafetiere a cheap blade grinder will do the job...

EDIT: I have the Krups above, for my Gaggia Classic. Don't tell the folk on CoffeeForums, but it's very good...

We had a Krups - it died very quickly. Wouldn't have another.

Your experiences may vary.

I was told that blade grinders cut and not grind, so you do not get the best flavour release. So we bought a manual grinder one that is available through Origin coffee. It's a lovely little bit of kit.

+1 for the Krupps one, just make sure you attach the centre piece correctly as I didnt an thought I had a duff one for over a year. Works flawlessly now.

For use in a caff you can use anything. I've used a hammer smash beans up whilst working away from home. The results will be the same. If I were looking for a grinder at this price point I'd buy a hand powered grinder. Otherwise a lot of what you spend is going to be on an electric motor & a fancy plastic enclosure.

Do a Google, there's lots of choice 😀

That Krups one did me 4 years before I got my new semi-pro setup. For French press there is little point in spending any more to be honest. If that's on the steep side then I'd be inclined to agree with Warton, a blade would do an acceptable job for French press, though I'd never recommend it for anything else!

thank's all.

This cold be the time to invest in a nice grinder and start using beans instead of pre-ground - OR buy a cheapo grinder to see how things go and get through this big bag of beans I've been given 🙂

Happy either way 🙂

budget - whatever buys me a good one IF it's worth the extra over an ok one for less 🙂
