3 year old Black A3 2.0TDI S-Line.

Why - its a company car, got it new & it now has 80k on it & I couldn't afford an RS6 Avant (cool with bikes on the top). Looks cool with the Thule 591 carriers on as well!

Audi TT 225 Coupe.

Because its a design classic, a nice place to sit, pretty quick and just about big enough for my life.

Looks like this but blue and without the OTT wheels:

02 astra sri - complete with broken bits as described on another thread

why relitively cheap to run and insure and it was a cool car when i bought it 5 years ago.

Went looking for a new car yesterday, looking at focus ST or golf gti and 100 others in between ( z3m coupe, z4 coupe, elise, delta intergrale, porsche 968 blah blah blah)

My missus always wante a smart roadster coupe, so we took one out for a spin , i thought it was a great little car proper shit eating grin at the end , although totally impractical for me it looks like shes getting it. Question is how did I go out looking for a car only for the gf to end up getting one instead? Heres a pic

Hora, the E-class is looking a little tired from never being garaged, so if I do get it back I'd like to treat it to a re-spray and new interior.

Can't afford to get it all done at once so it will be a medium/long term project. Do the interior first (I like the idea of neoprene covered seats as they're mud/water friendly), then the paintwork and maybe finish it off with some AMG style alloys.

No bodykit, spoilers or daft stereo equipment.

Why? Because i get good fuel economy out of it - nearly 40mpg. Bearing in mind i only ever got 45mpg out of cars like Golfs & Jettas i am happy with that. It can take 3 child seats including full baby seats on the back seat. Not many cars can cope with 3 booster seats cos they are always wider. It is quick enough to cope with any overtaking i need to do along with cruising on the motorway at low revs. I can take any amount of rubbish in the back and its always like a car in the front. I can take 5 bikes & riders in it or with towbar mounted rack i can take 8 bikes or camping gear. When i ask my son does he want to go camping it take 5mins to load up with bikes and gear and off. If my 2yr old needs a wee whilst on a long journey she just uses her potty in between the seats (I know its not legal). It costs me a hell of a lot less in tax than the C Class i should have 🙂

Shakes head some more at all the dull, dull, dull cars.

Honda S2000 because; we can have one practical and one impractical car, 9000rpm is addictive, it starts every single time (not an elise), can accomodate a weekend camping trip, and it's a lot of proper fast rear drive car for not a lot of cash.

Old golf estate (2.0 petrol) for transporting bikes, building materials and more luggage, also pretty quick even loaded. Oh for an R32 estate...

Astra Coupé Linea Rossa. Had it from new. Why? Its semi-practical, looks good in my eyes, its quick, theres not millions of them about, theres non that look quite like mine, its fairly cheap motoring. I Hate hatchbacks, cars should have a boot or they just look like short estates!

To be honest though, Ive had it 6 years and i'm borred of it, but cant afford to change it yet.

I have a Mondeo tdci 130 estate.

1) its quick enough considering i'm only 24
2) I bought it 2 weeks ago with 37k on the clock from a ford dealer for £4600 with a 3 year warrenty = dirt dirt cheap
3) It ****ing massive.
4) it costs my £800 a year to insure so thats relatively cheap to (first year insuring something myself and under 25) a quote for a £500 corsa came in at £550 for the year

Loving your work there Littlest Hobo. I'd like one of these, similar to yours but with a lovely barrier between me and the kids/dogs.

Landrover LR3 4.4 V8

Why? Because it cost less to buy and the same to run as my last car a VW polo 1.2 12 v and after driving that for 4 years I though I had paid my eco dues for a while.

Its very comfy and fits everything in/on, can go anywhere and makes shuttling at the local hill easy.

why?

mrs lost her job and had to cut corners, got rid of my car and bought the bike wish i'd done it years ago!

cannot believe the money we have saved using this to get to work, £15 tax, £11 to fill up, £92 fully comp insurance.

just mastering the art of filtering which is fun!

Alfa 2.4 JTD Sportwagon.

Ex Tuning company development car.

With all the gadgets and gizmo's turned on it's over 300bhp and >500 lb/ft torque 😯 Yep, that breaks lots of clutches! Kevlar, ceramic you name it!

These are great cars to drive even as Std, 3 bikes and 3 people + gear for a weekend away.

Clio 182

1. Because they are cheap
2. They are nastly built
3. They are a hoot to drive
4. It can get two bikes+ a weeks worth of gear+ food and not struggle
5. It will return 46mpg
6. It looks good 😕
7. Its French
8. Its not boring by means it always needs the spanners on it 🙂

Rich-6 How the hell are you getting 46mpg? I've not seen better than 36 out of my 172 and that was being veeery careful! Must change these lead boots of mine 😐

Grimy, when I was having some work done on my car I borrowed one of those. Have you noticed how ridiculously light the steering goes the faster you drive it?

I drive a real awful, hateful piece of junk - possibly the worst feat of engineering the world has ever known. Vauxhall Omega - slushbox.

Why? Because it was free and I had to sell my old Audi avant & the quattro (20v coupe)

Its slow, has velour interior, a brown dashboard, but, I can get my bike in the boot with the seats folded.
it doesn't matter whether I mark in the inside as I hate it and i've only got another 4 months of owning it until I change it
its woefully slow
has a tow bar
its hateful
handles like a small ship with sponge suspension
it rattles (its a vauxhall)

And it makes me smile knowing someone went into the showroom and openly admitted to the salesman "I have no ambition or desire, please sell the poverty spec' model" - all said in some drone of a voice.

T4/T5 van on the horizon 😉

406 Estate - because with the seats folded the tandem fits in the back if you take the wheels off (that was seriously one of my buying criteria!) Alternatively I can get a normal size bike in without removing wheels with one kiddy seat still in place. At least when I got it it had the biggest seat folded boot space without going up a class to really expensive things.

It'l do me 46 on a run i think she did 42 on my recent trip to scotland with 2 bikes on the roof and fuly loaded in the back with a weeks worth of food/ beer clothing for me and the missus, Sat @50mph all the way there 😆

32-36 is the norm for town driving and a bit of redlining down a few lanes, Its on the choke on the way to and from work too so its running very rich generaly i drive it like an old man 🙂 Lowest i've done is 23 😮 When the lambda probe went

A good engine flush and 5/40 made it more efficient i found too

jontawn = best post on this thread.

I got "upgraded" to an Omega for a weekend's car hire in Scotland once and your comments are spot-on.

The only advantage was that everyone would assume we (three lads in our mid 20s) were CID and get out of our way on the roads.

2.0 TDCi C-Max - powerful yet staggeringly economical (50mpg on an Afan/Brechfa M4 run, wife even gets 37mpg queuing bumper to bumper across Bristol every day), comfy, takes 3 bikes and riders inside the car, drives like a proper car.

Sadly, rattles like crazy and hasn't been the total reliability experience I was expecting coming from a modern Ford but nothing critical. I deffo reckon they make the C-Max on a friday though. I swear to god I'm going to hacksaw the bloody rear passenger dinner trays off if they keep rattling away.

fiesta mk 4.
I got it cheap, gets me from essex to wales and back no problem with two people, tents, tools and bikes on the back (tad cozy admittedly!), rarely needs any work.

Another thing i like is that it is covered in dents and damage (not my doing i should add) and therefore when stupid twonks in black german cars try to squeeze past to zip down the cycle lane to bypass all the traffic i never budge an inch because i couldn't give the smallest peanut sized shit if it gets a few more dents or scratches.

I drive a Prius, so go on, flame me. I drive it because it's big and comfy and gets 60mpg. Way cleaner and greener than any other car of its size. Don't believe the anti-hype.

Mondeo 130TDCi Estate. I was 25 when I bought it so thanks to Ian for taking over the honours 😉 Is a great car though and plenty quick. But it will soon be for sale as we don't need such a big car when, like Moses, we have an...

...Iveco Daily campervan. Only half converted and downsizing the Mondeo will be paying to finish the conversion. One of the only vans we could find that will legally tow our horsebox, plus has enough space for a garage for the bikes 🙂
