I haven’t listened to all of them but blood on the tracks is mine at the moment, absolutely brilliant. It used to be blonde on blonde when that was the only one I had listened to. What now?

Bringing it all back home shades it for me. Some of his best tracks however are stand out tracks on otherwise average albums - like Changing of the guard on Street Legal.

That Bootleg series double studio 65-66 (Bringing it all back home to Blonde on Blonde).

Or the live bootleg series one that straddles his folk-electric period (the one with 'Judas!)... 😆

I have a soft spot for Street Legal. Definitely not his best album (for me that's probably Bringing It All Back Home or Blood On The Tracks) but there's something about it I love. And it's worth trying to track down a bootleg of the Infidels sessions (e.g. Rough Cuts or Outfidels) as they show the album it could have been.

Blood on the Tracks, Highway 61, or as above, live stuff from 64-66.
🙂

Tough one.

Blood on the Tracks is awesome, but I quite like Infidels...a lot of good tracks on that, but depends how much you hate Mark Knopfler.

I can't answer the OP's question . . . but I just laughed at "I'm a Little Teapot" sung to the tune of "Blowin' in the Wind" on "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue".

Was excellent. The unexpected harmonica had me in stitches.

Anyway, I'm a fence-sitter, so boys midway between "Desire" and "Blood on the Tracks".

Desire

BTW still kicking myself for missing the Dylan musical Girl from the North Country. I am sure it will be on somewhere else but the original cast where superb (saw a bit on the Andrew Marr show)

Nashville Skyline and Desire are right up there. But most listened to is probably the Pat Garrett soundtrack! Amazing album to meditate to.

Poor mans Woody Guthrie

Oh dear, that kinda shows how much you don't know about him.

Bringing It All Back Home
Highway 61 Revisited
Blonde on Blonde

For me those three albums between 1965 & 1966 are the height of creativity and I flip between which of them is my favourite depending on how I'm feeling.

Harking back to the best opening lines thread here a while ago:

Oh God said to Abraham, “Kill me a son”

Abe says, “Man, you must be puttin’ me on”

God say, “No.” Abe say, “What?”

God say, “You can do what you want Abe, but

The next time you see me comin’ you better run”

Well Abe says, “Where do you want this killin’ done?”

God says, “Out on Highway 61”

OK, how about Townes Van Zandt is the best song writer and I'll stand on Bob Dylans coffee table in my cowboy boots and say so

Desolation Row!

they're painting the passports brown

Blimey. It was about Brexit all along!

Here comes the blind commissioner

Yup, Brexit alright.

When asked about the spiritual significance of
"But people don't live or die, people just float"
Dylan said - " it rhymes with Coat" 🙂

Crickets are chirpin’, the water is high
There’s a soft cotton dress on the line hangin’ dry
Window wide open, African trees
Bent over backwards from a hurricane breeze
Not a word of goodbye, not even a note
She gone with the man
In the long black coat

Somebody seen him hanging around
At the old dance hall on the outskirts of town
He looked into her eyes when she stopped him to ask
If he wanted to dance, he had a face like a mask
Somebody said from the Bible he’d quote
There was dust on the man
In the long black coat

Preacher was a talkin’, there’s a sermon he gave
He said every man’s conscience is vile and depraved
You cannot depend on it to be your guide
When it’s you who must keep it satisfied
It ain’t easy to swallow, it sticks in the throat
She gave her heart to the man
In the long black coat

There are no mistakes in life some people say
It is true sometimes you can see it that way
But people don't live or die, people just float
She went with the man
In the long black coat

There’s smoke on the water, it’s been there since June
Tree trunks uprooted, 'neath the high crescent moon
Feel the pulse and vibration and the rumbling force
Somebody is out there beating a dead horse
She never said nothing, there was nothing she wrote
She gone with the man
In the long black coat

HAVE YOU SEEN HOW MUCH DYLAN TICKETS ARE? I might ceremoniously burn my Dylan albums. It's what he would have wanted.

Always liked John Wesley Harding, Highway 61 Revisited, Desire, Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks, Freewheelin and many others.

Masters of War on Freewheelin is outstanding for its lyrics (even though he stole the tune).

The Album I don't like is Slow Train Coming.

Really I agree that Highway 61/Bringing it all back home/Blonde on blonde are his creative peak but nobody has mentioned his later albums so I'm going to suggest Time out of Mind
