Rained for about an hour or two Tuesday evening, fantastic smell, a welcome break from the humidity, lasted about 30 seconds after the rain stopped.

I'm currently wearing long trousers for the 2nd time what I'm sure is a month, but maybe slightly longer.

I have only worn long trousers once in about 6 weeks and that was because I had a client meeting.

17 drops fell approximately 2 hours ago.  We haven't had any rain of note since early May by my reckoning (Calderdale).

Bloody weeds/nettles/brambles manage to keep growing though!

We actually got some rain the other morning, so we went and stood outside in it. It was lovely. For the whole two minutes it lasted.

It’s mad! I’ve never seen the reservoirs anywhere near this low. And there’s no wind. The turbines across the valley on Scout Moor have all been hung there motionless for two days now. Which never happens!

Over here in Germany we literally haven't seen any rain for over six weeks. Our garden looks like the Sahara right now! (You have to pay for every cl of water here so there is no hosing the garden). It also looks like we are not going to get any change in the weather unil the end of August either!

Distant thunder and a few spots of rain in Ely. Proper rain is due tomorrow. Looking forward to it, today has been like a fan oven and it hasn't rained properly for 10 weeks.

We've got our 10 year old nephew and his mate staying. They saw the forecast for Wakefield this morning, saying there's thunder and lightning coming this afternoon. Giddy!

They've prepared the garden shed with camp chairs unfolded, crisps and pop. They're going to be out here in it, if/when it starts.

They're back in the house now, watching telly.

We've had a few big drops of rain and rumbles of thunder, nowt else yet. It's looking dark to the south now, though.

Round here (north downs) some of the trails have cleared as the nettles have wilted. I'm some cases though the larger bushes have done the same and collapsed into the trail

I nipped out on the nice road bike on Sunday morning. It was overcast but not raining and the forecast definitely said there was <5% chance of rain and a gentle breeze. It then proceeded to absolutely lash it down for two hours whilst I rode into a force 9 gale for the entire ride. I got back and ate a sandwich, by which time the sun was cracking the flags again.

No chance, they love it out in the shed, dancing round the lawn, running back and forwards into the house when it's raining.

There's a few more grumbles in the air...

Just a few spots starting now. Not sure if it will come to anything but could do with something to deal with this humidity. Glad I trimmed the lawns an hour or so ago - first time in a month.

First significant rain here since mid-may.

5 mins of delicious rain, which, 5 mins later,  has now mostly evaporated.

It might get down to 22° over night, but it'll be back up to 33° tomorrow.

Last rain of any note was about a week ago, for a couple of hours; prior to that I think it rained in May, but I’m not certain. I’m watering parts of the garden, where I’ve planted ferns and put down a load of mossy stones and logs, mainly for the benefit of the hedgehogs, who enjoy snuffing around in the softer soil, plus I keep saucers of water on the patio and suet pellets which they seem to enjoy. There’s usually two, but sometimes as many as five.

I'm in Sheffield. I've been drenched with sweat all day, every day, for weeks.

But... it's just went dark and I can hear thunder.

Bring it on!

EDIT: It just started lashing down. The temperature in my room just went down for the first time in a month.

We did have 5, not seen any for weeks now, but at least one of them is eating the food I put out each night.

I was listening the R5L on the way home, m25 near Heathrow was simply baking at 240C for 20mins, then flip and roast for 10mins on the other side.. The radio bloke said 35C at the airport and if I'd opened the windows I'm pretty sure he'd have been right..

However as I hit the Meon Valley heading Sarf, the clouds started to appear above Alton and from then on under cloud cover and at least a drop of 10C.. arrived home on the coast an its overcast and over the New Forest it actually looks like it might have rained, due to the low hanging clouds... but no rain at home.

London Tarn was hot as hell in a heatwave and I really do think..

We've had enough now.

Not me, I love it but I really would like to see some rain now.

not a torrential downpour but a steady shower,

exactly what the allotment needs so hopefully it will carry on for a while

I live in rural Kent.  I saw the gathering clouds as I got off the train, so I sprinted (read *ambled at an accelerated pace*) home from the station having changed into my biking gear on the train and went out in the stifling heat hoping for some rain on my face.  Blimey...thunder, lightning and warm rain like I've never known it.  I rode about fifteen miles in this and the air still felt cloying and thick.

I've some major bike cleaning issues to sort tomorrow.

Best UK storm I've seen in years last night. Seemed like a band of lots of storms moving North rather than just one storm, lightning all over the shop.

Had to decamp from bed to the conservatory sofa for optimum viewing 🙂

Rained last night, but there was thunder and a torrential downpour here around 10-10.30 this morning. Clouding over again now, and tomorrow looks like a pretty dank day. Good, everything is struggling, despite trying to keep the garden watered; my lovely Acer is showing heat stress, some leaves and branches are shrivelled and dying. ☹️

no rain for over 50 days here, rain had fallen a few miles away but missed here until last night, washed all the crap away from the roads and pavements. flat is well insulated and shaded but it was 31º indoors in the afternoon/evening on the hottest day, its now a very comfortable 24º

im off to singapore tomorrow so back to the 30’s but wit 80-90% humidity.

Had about 12 hours of intermittent heavy rain here, the Beck hasn't risen at all. We're on a private water supply and it's been a nervous few weeks waiting for the tank to stop filling. Friends with holiday lets on their farm booked up with 25 guests til septSepte were running out last week and tankering in water.

A bit of a thunderstorm heading past at the moment. Rain heavy enough to kill off the sat TV signal.

As with @thestabiliser we are on a private supply so have been taking extra care this last month to six weeks. The overflow has still been running so we've been OK. This rain won't make much of a difference as the vegetation will soak up pretty much all of it. Would take another couple of weeks of this for rain to get into the tank.

Dramatic weather this afternoon but the showers only last a few minutes. Nearby reservoirs are almost dry.

Yesterday I was passing the time of day with my boss who is a big swinging dick Alpha male type who drives a huge eff-off Mercedes, has a Mercedes sports car, lives in a mahoosive house in Cheshire, has a yacht and a speedboat, a chalet in north Wales, two ride-on lawnmowers, plays golf and yo-ho-hos a lot. I mentioned that my lawn was brown and he laughed and showed me a photo of his huge lawn, which is a lovely lush green colour. "Soon as I get home every day I put the sprinklers on - ha ha!"

So it's dickheads like him who are causing the shortage.

Look up the number of leaks and wastage rates from your local water company. PLenty of water to go round and then some if they managed their networks properly.

It was a brilliant storm last night on the Lincolnshire coast - constant thunder and lightning and very strong wind.  We lost the satellite tv signal and the power went off twice, and we had to drag a fallen branch from a neighbouring tree off the lane.  So much cooler today, it's rather nice.

Forecasted rain last night started at 9pm. And stopped at 9:07pm. Still a few downpours overnight and then an absolute biblical thunderstorm as we were riding back towards the pub. Not been that cold and wet for a few months! Sun’s back out now but tomorrow looks grim/great depending if you’ve already been out riding 🙂

We’ve had bog all in Herefordshire fo six weeks or more. Trails were like concrete. Crops looks thirsty and grass looked dead. So hoping by Weds we’ll be back to lovely loamy soil….

When the water companies stop losing billions of litres every year through shonky pipes and lack of infrastructure investment, then I’ll start feeling guilty about keeping my plants and the local, vulnerable wildlife alive.

Oh, and there’s been several really heavy downpours today, and hopefully tomorrow.

Fairly lazy trope that, every litre you use is litre lost to the middle of the river systems from which your water is sourced PLUS leakage. Also the water companies bought networks that had effort all spent on them since the Victorian era, one of the pushes in to private ownership was the inability of government to fund renewals whereas they could set investment targets for the water cos as part of the licence to operate. They're far from perfect but have replaced more pipework in the last 20 years than public ownership managed in a hundred. But you carry on.
