Women don't do mountain biking do they? And if they did, I doubt they'd join a forum about men and bikes? It's not the 22nd century yet...

Cheers lads.

6 on our ride today. Three were women of the female variety. They all joined the ride via an online forum.

They might have second thoughts if they found the OP on it...

Is the OP living in cloud-effing-cuckoo land or what?

๐Ÿ˜€

Wasn't quite sure, hence the question. I mean usually I address the forum like.....
"alright chaps"
"at the ready men"
"haway lads"

But if there are women on here, perhaps the above isn't quite appropriate.

I use chaps in a non-gender specific fashion.

It still amazes me that long term active members get whooshed by Mr Taylforth.

Ironically, for a forum which is about children (loosely, I know ๐Ÿ˜† ) they are allowed to swear far, far more than we are.

This is where we come to dispel the existential angst, if only for a while. Bikes are incidental to this.

Indeed it is, Sir Nigel Gresley, IIRC.
Not that I'm in any way a trainspotter, you understand, just someone who appreciates fine engineering...

This thread reminds me of crankygirl's (who lurks on here) response to being asked what her experience of wild camping was "as a woman" .. "Same as your's as a bloke .unless I need a piss."

Most of our group rides have more women than men.
The youngest step daughter and her mates all ride.
My wife's colleagues all ride, most of mine don't.

Loads of women riders out and about on the trails round here.

Not uncommon to find a lady cyclist rinsing her lettuce by the side of the trail, in preparation for a healthy picnic, I assume.

I'm always being mistaken for a bloke when I'm out mountain biking. Makes me laugh when someone says "alright feller". ๐Ÿ™‚

I have to admit, I was more than a little disappointed it wasn't Lady Gresley who posted it, missed a trick there. ๐Ÿ˜

Mr T does have a valid point though.

If there are so many wimminz rocking da trailz, why do so few feel the need to waste their valuable time posting nonsense on here?

Is there an MTB/cycling bit on Mumsnet btw?
I'm scared to look.

They're here, but whilst there isn't a [/Girl] function on the forum, we're all at risk of being accidentally drawn into their emotional and unstructured ramblings.

Cheers, Rachael

Because women demand a decent mobile platform. So have have been driven away.

What I was really getting at is why some posters on here feel only the need to address the men on the forum.

Cheers lads.

Oh, I'm well aware of that, Som.

But Mumsnet.
It's serious business over there, makes this place look like Toytown.
The willingness to post sweary toss seems not to be defined by sex or gender.

I met a woman on a recent MTB ride and chatted with her for a while. She asked me if I was on the women's MTB forum "MTB chicks and trails" but I said I was on STW.
I don't feel the urge to be in a women-only place!

I think the forum owners are misogynists.

For example, I posted a thread entitled "Waddup bitches!", and it got deleted.

How do you know who's female or not. Not every female has a gendered username.
