4pounds down since new year. Good start but long way to go yet. Doesn't help that I scraped and bruised my shin over weekend, off the bike for at least a week or two.

Down to 85.9 this morning (starting at 88.8kg on New Years Day) and that was after the Doritos incident of Thursday night.

Back on the snackerjacks with my lunch today, hmmm flavoured cardboard.

How are we all doing?

One of my mates has just been on the Slimming World diet for a week. He's already lost 7lb (15 stone down to 14.5)! I just can't figure out how it works given the recipes I've seen so far; potatoes, fruit, cream, rice, pasta, bread ...

Has anyone dabbled with this?

i put 3lbs on this week. dont know how.
someone told me it is because i am not eating enough, which maybe true, i dont know.
did not eat a lot last week, ans also stopped having my day off the primal.
need to get back to having a carb blowout day i reckon.

ton - I can sympathise.
I've been doing the 4HB diet for a few weeks now and have managed to gain a couple of pounds over the last week somehow.
I swim twice a week, Body Pump class twice a week and cycle as much as possible. Been very strict with the carb intake but confess I do not eat the beans (don't fancy all that lectin).
I was very half hearted on my cheat day last week (seems like a nonsense to me) and the diet stopped working. So, I had a massive carby pig out yesterday in the hopes it kicks back in over this week.

couple of pounds lost this week, which is fine. I wouldn't worry about putting on a few pounds in a week, I know it can be a bit of a downer but you mind find that if you weigh yourself mid week you'll have lost a few pounds.

@ton: I'm right in thinking that a couple of weeks ago you said you were feeling rubbish mainly because of your (i)diet? Which was a bit odd because a few weeks before that you said you'd never felt so good. Just wondering if you can elaborate on that - mainly because I've done the idiet/paleo thing on and off for nearly 2 years now.

spacemonkey......i thought it was the diet, lack of vits and minerals maybe.
but then i came down with a bad pnuemonia, which must have been the reason i felt bad.

i try to cover all the bases with the diet. plenty of protein for brekkie, eggs, tuna, bacon some days.
dinner is fish/meat with some veg/salad
repeat for evening meal.
eat loads of fresh veg and salad, beans/chickpeas 3 times a week. snack on a few nuts or a bit of liquorice.

maybe i just had a bad week, gonna try and eat a bit more this week and up my water intake.

Lost 1.2kg this week so things are still going well. Combination of myfitnesspal, cycling, walking and running plus cut out butter, cream, snacks in general is keeping me on the right direction. Trying to get some exercise every day and last week was:

Monday - 2*20 mile bike commute
Tuesday - 3*2 mile fast walks
Wednesday - 3*2 mile fast walks
Thursday - 2*20 mile bike commute
Friday - 3*2 mile fast walks
Saturday - 1*20 mile cycle
Sunday - 5 mile run

pnuemonia

That's a pretty valid enough reason methinks. Just wondered if you were getting a bad reaction to the diet.

Like you I try to cover all bases but IMO that means breaking away from the more hardcore elements of the idiet. I reckon all in all it's generally pretty sound though.

Not a great week weight has been up and down, same as I was last week. Not going to be great the next two weeks either as I am working away.

Have to stay motivated but on the plus side I am not missing the comfort foods, bacon butties, biscuits etc an I am eating more sensibly.

Just have to play the long game.

Seeing as I've just spent 2 weeks in meetings in a hotel where they drip fed us cake all day, I think putting on a pound is a bit of a result!

Using the Myfintnesspal App, I have got down from 14st 13lb to 14st 5lb, in 3 weeks.
The App has helped me control what I ingest (both portion size and alcohol) and if I am going out for a boozy meal then I offset this by doing a bit more biking/running/kayaking/hiking. My diet wasn't particulaly bad previously but I was taking on too many calories (that seems obvious now I know what's in the food I eat). It really was/is an eye opener for someone who has never really read the side of a packet or worked out how many calories were contained in a piled high Sunday roast + bottle of wine.
I like the fact that you can offset what you take in with more exercise. Whilst I realise that is a dumb statement (before you take the piste), actually quantifying things has helped me.

Good stuff Sparky. I have found that just weighing myself a lot and switching to metric has helped the focus. Quantifying things must have an impact. My diet was not overly bad it was just the crap alongside the food and little extras that were doing it. I have cut out all snacking in the day and most in the evening and I am genuinely surprised by the way my weight is dropping.

if i don't excercise, i literally can eat nothing all week otherwise i either remain static or gain a little.

that said, 99% and because i miss it less and less (not to mention the £hundereds i save every month) soon to be 100% off the booze. that was always my biggest downfall, and having stopped all but weekends 6 weeks before xmas, since xmas just a couple of small nips on a saturday night, i'm down to 13st which for me this time of year is very light.

I haven't followed this but have been dieting. I've been pretty stupid really but it has worked. 11 pounds since new year and I wasn't really overweight particularly, just wanted to trim up a bit. I'm 6'3 and was 13.3 stone. I'm now 12.6 stone.

I've been eating no breakfast, soup for lunch then a veg heavy evening meal and maybe a piece of fruit combined with weight lifting and cycling everyday bar Sunday. It's been tough going and maybe not the most sensible approach.

Jamie - Member

Kind of yes...

The 2 600cal days are now about 900-950 cals as i was missing having a nice warm bowl of porridge on the cold icy days of fasting... So i guess it's not having quite the effects it would if i were down in the 600cals.

I'm also TERRIBLE on the 5's.... eating anything and everything i want... which if i want any more reasonable losses, i really need to cut out.

But i'm at a point of contentedness with the weight/size at the moment, so not really pushing myself on the diet... just using exercise and pushing myself on the pedals to counterbalance things.

Heh...likewise. I really think they underestimate that gusto with which some interpret the 'eat as much as you want' part of the equation.

I gave it a go for a bit, but think I might switch back to good 'ol calorie counting, as despite what all the new research says, it has been the one thing that has worked for me guaranteed. Yeah, it's harder, but maybe that's the point. No quick fixes etc etc.

Incidentally, Michael Mosley has a book out. Not great reviews, but cheap on Amazon.

Down to 84.9 this morning which is the best part of half a stone since NYD however that is to extend due to switching to weighing myself in the morning.

Not a great weekend due to Family staying over meaning more booze than usual and bacon butties Sunday morning. Good week last week though and another one in store. Minimal exercise year to date so if I can get back on the bike whilst staying off the junk food I will have a bikini body in time for summer. 😯

Thats another 2 lbs lost last week.

Its all going in the right direction.

Once i can get back out on the bike in March for some proper rides that i should see it flying off.

Myfitnesspall is a great app. Really helps you inderstand what you are taking in and give you a we check when you are reaching for the goodies late at night.

Im sticking to 1600cal a day which is pretty tough for me, really just 3 meals a day with some fruit and veg as snacks. Breakfast and lunch are usually 400 cal each which leaves 800 cal for dinner and a few snacks. Keeping dinner down to about 600 cal is hard for me.

Getting out on the bike makes a huge difference, on the days i get out my calorie expenditure is effectivly zero. Goes a long way to keeping my weekly average under 1600 cal.

I'm trying to stick to about 1900k a day but its a struggle at the mo as I'm no longer cycling everyday.
weekends are a killer as it tends to be anything goes.

I have ditched the alcohol, not that i drank loads but even a few bottles of beer at the weekend adds up.

Other changes for me have been no sugar in coffee, brown bread and brown rice and pasta.

Alos trying to eat more veg, raw carrots and celery to nibble on. Along with fruit.

I've lost 1/2 stone this last week by moving more and eating less. Who'd have thunk that something as simple as that could work?

Right. Assuming your scales/measurements are accurate, how much of that do you think is water (and therefore irrelevant) and how much is body fat? If you think you've lost 7lbs of bodyfat in a week, and you're not the half-ton man, I call bullshit! 😆

Right, purposly stayed off this thread as didnt want to put the pressure on myself to loose weight.

But weighed myself on the 6th Jan and was bang on 13st. Heavies I have ever been. Felt and looked fat and had developed a double chin.

So I've been off the booze since the 7th, rode twice a week, walked and tonight gonna start going for a little run. I've basically stuck to Wheatabix for Breakfast, Salad sandwich for lunch and salad plus chicken or something similar for tea.

So far lost 10lbs. Chin has gone and I'm noticeably slimmer (can do an extra belt hole). Feel pretty chuffed with that to be honest.

Couldnt get my head round the Myfitnesspal app, so will have a sit down tonight after the jog and see what I can get sorted.

You can do myfitnesspal as an App or just on the PC.

The best thing is the bar code reader, makes life easy to enter what you eat. And if you have regular meals then just input that and it will save the data.

Once you get into the swing its very quick and for some folk a great motivator.

I seem to have lost half a stone by accident, was shocked to stand on the scales the other day and find myself a nip under 9st.

Only .5 kg lost last week, getting in to the hard yards now.

Good effort Ton, my weight goes up and down over the week but its the general trend that counts. I’m going to try and push it this week to see if the momentum can be kicked on.
