[Closed] Weightlifters: which shoes?

I usually just lift in my socks, but my new gym won't countenance such a ghastly affront to decency. I usually run to the gym, necessitating proper running shoes, but obviously these are worse than useless for lifting in.

Is it worthwhile forking out for a pair of dedicated shoes, or would anything flat without too much 'give' do the job?

i just use a battered pair of nikes with a thin sole so they flex when squatting and deadlifting. they do the trick fine and dont get too hot either

Yeah just use your common sense. Anything with a thinnish, supportive sole that won't roll.

Or join a proper gym.

I had the same issue re just socks. I have bought some "cheap" proper weightlifting shoes

http://www.213kg.com/brand/dowin/weights_shoes/GL2WH.html

Granted they aren't actually cheap but you aren't going to wear them out in a hurry and they do make a difference to your lifts. Also much cheaper than the big brand ones.

If you want to squat deep then I'd recommend proper heel lift weight lifting shoes as they make it much easier to go deep and keep your back neutral.

If you're doing explosive lifts (Snatch / Clean & Jerk) then you want zero padding and a very solid sole, so as not to lose any power in compressing the sole, this really means proper lifting shoes.

Mine are these Adidas ones (which everyone seems to use): http://www.alltheheavylifting.com/adidas-power-perfect-ii-weightlifting-shoes-review/

I have two pairs, one I leave at the gym and one for the home gym...

If you are at all serious about weightlifting, especially olympic lifts, then get a pair and wear them.

My wife's got a pair of Inov8 lifting shoes, as does every other hard core crossfitter at her 'box'.

Dunno if that means they're good, or if it's just another reminder that crossfitters are in many ways sheepesque...

I use these https://www.strengthshop.co.uk/strength-shop-impalas-weightlifting-shoes.html not too expensive but make a big difference from bare feet. Tho i prefer to deadlift in bare feet still

I wouldn't use any crossfit shoes as they aren't designed specifically for lifting but for a variety of activities due to the nature of crossfit.

I was going to suggest Inov8 as a potential, but I don't own a pair of those. I tend to lift in my F-Lites, but realise it's not ideal for proper heavy Olympic lifts.

I do Crossfit. Baaaaaa.

Sorry Willard, shoulda added a ๐Ÿ˜‰ - it's a joke I have with my wife about crossfitting, not necessarily a true reflection!

My wife loves it - heading off to a comp in a few months - and everyone I've met from there has been hecka friendly. And looks astoundingly fit.
