[Closed] Weight loss... avoid porridge?

No one ever got fat from a bowl of porridge after riding to work

That. I found I did lose weight on 16:8 but being 100% honest with myslef its because I was eating less. You could skip the porridge (7 miles unless all uphill don't really need immediate refuelling), but if it stops you eating something worse an hour later it's fine.

Just **** eat less a ride more!! FFS how hard can it be?

But then you can end up under-fuelling as reported in Cycling Weekly this week and in BMJ Open sport and medicine by Dr Keay which can lead to low bone density.

You just can't win.....

...“packet porridge is bad and full of crap”, though in most cases, like for like, it’s not and is probably better since it forces portion control.

I've never thought individual sachets of porridge are bad, just a massive rip off. Just checked the prices and "Oats-unnecessarily-complicated" is currently half price at Tesco, so only four times the price of the same porridge in a big bag. Bargain!
I use the high tech solution of filling a wee dish to get the right quantities of porridge and water. I'm not convinced extra packaging is very effective as portion control. How hard is it to open two packets instead of one?

Technically, you’re probably correct, but by cereal I mean something that’s processed to a shape, basically anything made by Kellogs et al!.

Hateful shite.

Shredded wheat?

@dangeourbrain

I know your comment wasn't aimed at me, it was at the post above yours but you nipped in while I was typing - a post which said that we were assuming that the OP was "a middle aged IT manager who , once seated at his swivel chair does nothing more than click a mouse for 6 hours"

I agree completely with you - porridge is great, it's the stuff you put with or that it comes cut with that'll make it not so great (although to repeat, the fibre is good for you irrespective of whether you have it plain or with honey and marshmallow topping) - and if sachets are an easy, albeit expensive solution then it's still better than a cereal bar or bowl of chocopop shapes.

I was more raising the point that if he does have a proper GRR!! job, it won't be the 7 mile commute that is the defining factor of whether to fuel up for the day, and if he is the STW textbook desk jockey then he almost definitely doesn't - unless his commute is 7km up a 1 in 6 hill and directly into a gale.

Shredded wheat

I'll raise you weetabix, something so unashamedly good for you they don't even try to make it look appealing, let alone taste nice.

Doubtless though it's bad for you though, because, you know, the big pharma lizzard people man.

How hard is it to open two packets instead of one?

in theory it's very easy but I'll happily eat a family* sized bag of crisps but I won't eat two piddly multipack ones back to back. Obviously anecdotes do not fact make.

(it's the sugar and cream to taste that ruined it clearly)

Shredded wheat and weetabix? Roof thatching and baby food, I wasn't arguing if they were good for you, just that it's tasteless shit! 😂
