recently widowed MIL and Mrs RNP dealt with the local WBAC after FIL passed - I had to get involved and nearly lamped the guy. I'd rather run a car into the absolute ground and scrap it than deal with them.

I dumped an A3 V6 Quattro on them that had a terminal failure in the heat exchanger. They were too busy drooling over the car to actually see the elephant in the room (I turned off the AC as it reeked of coolant). They thought they squeezed me on price, whereas I knew they’d overpaid for a dud.

Bunch of ******s, we looked into it, trying to dispose of my mothers car after she gave up driving. After forking out for 6 months tax, and them taking off for every minor defect they would give us £30. We ended up giving the car to a local school for the students to learn car mechanics and to drive in.

I got an online price when trying to shift my old focus. It was laughably low. Like 150quid or something. I sold it fee free on autotrader for 800quid.

I'm a fan. Over 6x the best trade in offer I got for my very tired Transporter.

My concern is you give them the car and then have to wait for the money to appear. There was a recent thread on Pistonheads where the money didn’t appear because the office mucked up the paperwork.

Just had a pretty positive experience. Chopped in my wife's old car. They were perfectly pleasant, gave us what I thought was a good price, about a third more than part ex.

found it:

pistonheads WBAC

I’ve only used their site to get a worst case value for part ex or if I’m selling a car but not on a hurry.

The pistonhead thread mentions a “ we want your car” place that come to you and only take the car once payment has gone through.

I think WBAC is owned by BCA so values will be based on what they know is selling. If you’ve got a car with issues that may show on a test drive then it’s probably a good place to drop it at!

Got rid of my Mk 5 Golf GT, I listed the small crack on the rear bumper so they couldn't knock me down on that, I also had an inlet manifold fault which kept throwing the engine management light up at the most awkward time (like when I tried to px it a few weeks before). I plugged my ODB reader in to make sure all codes were clear beforehand.

The guy did a walk round the car, claimed the wheels would need sprucing up in the 'workshop' so adjusted the cost down and the bumper damage was noted so accepted that. Luckliy the dash didn't light up like a Christmas tree. Overall, I got knocked down about £100 from the online quote and paid extra to have the money in my account within 2 hours. I tracked my car down on Autotrader a few weeks at a smaller dealer and it was in the same state I sold it. And that Golf is now someone elses problem as the latest MOT history shows...

They are what they are. Virtually any other method of selling your car should get you more money if you can be bothered. If you can't, accept the low price and go on your merry way.

I suppose you've got accept them for what they are - it's like selling an old Watch to a Pawn Shop, if you want same-day cash you're not going to get every penny out of it, well unless you're going to stiff them with a car with a hidden fault.

From what I can work out, they want to pay £1000 less than the typical auction price for their efforts, which considering the risks they're taking is probably fair.

There's aren't as many cash buyers for £10k+ cars these days, most people seem to use PCP so if you're trading up and the dealer offers you less than WBAC why not use them.

If you're selling a cheaper car and you don't need it gone quick I wouldn't use them, most people who've had a bad experience seem to be selling something worth a few grand and are pissed off because they tear a grand off it's value and then knock it down for all the faults a trader would have to fix to resell it.

Of course, the world is full of arseholes and the motor trade does seem to attract them, if you turn up to find yourself dealing with some Wide Boy Geezer he'll be a pain in the arse regardless.

We transferred my late dads crv to us a few days before we lost him then decided it wasn't for us so chopped it in. WBAC would do a deal as we hadn't owned it more than 6 months. Ended up going to Motorway and they found a dealer within 24 hrs and the money was in MrsG82's account before thy turned up a few day later to pick it up. Was harder work emptying it out than selling.
