[#1914164]

Somehow this came up at the dinner table once that my in-laws spray WD40 onto their aching joints, sore knees etc and they claimed it eased the pain/stiffness.

Is there any medial reason why this would work, and reasons why it really isnt good to apply to human skin?

Just wondering as they are adamant it works and wanted some ammunition next time it comes up.

I'd keep away from amunition if you're covered in WD40, in fact any naked flame or ... whoomf!

Isn't it also used for rocket fuel or sommat?

No I am pretty sure they actually do it, and believe it too.

Placebo, tell them snake oil is 10 times more effective.

They probably read it in the Daily Mail, I get patients quoting "Mail facts" all the time.

I heard this recently too and it sounds like madness to me. Could a penetrating spray actually get through your skin and inti your cartlidge of your joints?
I wouldn't try it- its carcinogenic

Don't know about carcinogenic, but it is an irritant.

Placebo

I'll ask my wife tonight (orthopaedic surgeon) if its some thing regularly prescribed.

From WD40 website
"Can WD-40 be used for Arthritis? WD-40 is not a medical product. We would never recommend to people that they spray WD-40 onto the skin. Our recommendation is to see your GP for expert advice on alleviating arthritis. "

Our dog takes this http://synflexforpets.co.uk/ and it does wonders for her... might be worth trying that before WD40 ?

Are you sure it was WD40?

I've heard of DMSO being used on joints.
