At a loose end on holiday waiting for it to stop raining. What's the normal protocol for English language films in France? Cheers!
Dubbing is normal in France afaik, and subtitling in Scandinavia.
Dubbing of old stuff like Monty Python and 'Allo 'Allo (yes really) takes it to a whole new level of hilarity 🙂

Dubbed, it improves many films no end. The French dubbing actors do a lot better than original stars especially in Hollywood stuff.
It's a quite a bit shorter in French

I prefer subtitled films. Dubbing never seems natural. The few films in Mandarin that I watch I love to listen to the actor's delivery even though I don't speak Mandarin.

Look for "V.O." on the poster - VO - Version Originale, i.e not dubbed
Usually marked "VOST" (version originale sous-titré - original version with sub-titles).
Not especially common though, especially with Holywood stuff.
I speak very good French and enjoy watching a decent French film, but I can't bring myself to watch dubbed holywood movies.
Yeah I enjoyed the good French film too.
And not speaking much French didn't matter.

Hmmm ... I think you may be able to find the film being shown in English with French sub-titles especially in bigger places. There is a belief in some quarters that films should not be dubbed.
I'm sure you'll be able to follow it: Bond is the goody, everyone else isn't.

In Paris, the movies can also be in original so no dubbing or subs.
Check with the Cinema/theatre.
Watched Frankenweenie in Paris last night and it was original dialogue with subtitles in french. Kept reading the subtitles though out of habit!
