Is there an easy way for a numpty to transfer my Survivors dvds onto my iPad?
I haven't tried ripping a DVD for a long time. It used to go something like:
Use Handbrake application (still free to download perhaps??) to rip the DVD to your mac in a format you can save to iTunes (mp4 maybe?). Then sync to iPad using iTunes.
Currently, videos now go into TV not iTunes but you should still be able to sync from that to the iPad.
Dodgyvision is probably the easiest option.
As above, rip using handbrake. Use VLC on the ipad to view them.
Bear in mind, most commercial DVDs will be copy protected. Back in The Day you'd need something else other than just Handbrake (eg, DVD43) to rip them.
These days I'd probably just torrent them. I have no moral issues with downloading something I've already paid for and why reinvent the wheel.

Or MakeMKV and then use handbrake to convert to a suitable format like .mp4 or .m4v

If only there had always been copious instructions how to copy libdvdcss.dll into the Handbrake directory to get round such complex crypto 😉
Being both a numpty and paranoid how do I know if I'm downloading a safe Handbrake?
If you already own the DVDs, why not just download the video files from a bittorrent site? You've already paid for the videos, all you'd be doing is letting someone else do the work of ripping the files and converting them.
