Has anyone bought from Creation Watches recently?
Do you have to pay taxes and duties?
Not for a couple of years. Bought 2 G-Shocks for about £100. Didn't pay any extras.
Do you have to pay taxes and duties?
I think the answer to all questions like this is, 'it depends'...
Is it over the magic number?
How is it declared?
Has it slipped through the cracks?
Etc
Thanks
Any suggestions where to get a £60 watch fixed?
It's a parnis homage of a Bell and Ross. While online the watch I don't like it £1000+ for a real one.
Where would you get a cheapish automatic watch serviced? I've tried to get inside but get stuck at the glass off and I've no idea how to get inside any further.
At this price I'd suspect buying a new movement would be cheaper than getting the actual problem.fixed
Me too. Got a Prospex Speedtimer on right now.
'Accidentally ' bought a SRQ055 Speedtimer last month. Put it on a Zuludiver Octapod strap. Love it!
It’s been a little while since I was last checking in here to see what various people were up to, and there’s some nice things about. I really don’t have much money to go indulging myself on the sort of watch I’d really, really like, but having not worn it in ages, I got the SPORK out of the box it normally lives in and I’ve been enjoying wearing it again. It’s a seriously heavy watch, especially after wearing CasiOaks for ages, but there’s something really comforting about wearing a substantial steel diver like the SP043K1. While checking them out online, to see what the market is at the moment (variable) I found a writeup online, and it turns out that there’s an SP043J1, a Japanese made and marked version, which are pretty scarce!
Something else I spotted, which I was delighted to discover, is that Yobokies actually sell replacement sapphire crystals for them, and bezel inserts as well! As the Hardex crystal is pretty scratched and chipped, so I’ll be putting an order in in the near future.

Probably try a local jewelers in the first instance.

Could be but what movement is it? Not something very common with a power meter on it.
Has anyone got a Vario watch?
Their solar Pilot watch looks nice
Everyone likes a Seiko diver, right? How about a Seiko diver owned by Popeye Doyle?
I'm tempted to chuck a cheeky offer in.

Why not! If you get it, you’ve got two decent Seikos, one in particular with actual history behind it, if you don’t, well you’ve lost nothing.
The bezel on the Pepsi shows it has certainly seen some wear! Owning and wearing a watch owned by an actor of Hackmans’s stature would certainly be a cool thing to have! 😄
That auction is a rabbit hole, I've always liked Gene H as an actor.......
I don't think we've had one of these yet. A 1960s Jaeger le Coultre Memovox as worn by Steve McQueen
My father's daily for over 30 years.

Lovely and easy to see where the modern Memovox get their insipration from.
A very different watch but if I had £20k to spunk on a watch this would be near the top of my list.
That’s a lovely JLC, I do like those, but not too sure about the polaris mariner though.
Another recommend for Calibre Watches in Edinburgh.
They've done a full service on my '09 Sub 14060M for a sensible price. Easy, stress-free, courier service and it hasn't had loads of bits replaced (as I feared Rolex would do) so it still has all the scars of a well-worn watch. The strap has been refurbished though and looks much better.

These are weird and a bit awful, imho.
Nano g shocks.

Stealth ad - is anyone interested in a Tudor Black Bay 58?

Agreed (and not because I think normal sized G-Shocks are pretty awful anyway)
Haven't visited this thread in a while, good to see it's still ticking along!
On G-shocks, the OH was quite keen on one of the 'gold' metal G-shocks - as a slightly oversized/ man's watch to wear to work, that's a bit bling without being properly spendy. Thing is, even the 5600 series (OG square G-shock) is apparently really heavy in metal - so does anyone have any pointers/ recos?
Separately, she's talked about maybe a vintage/ secondhand gold Rolex for a significant birthday/ anniversary. Maybe 36mm, possibly bi-metal (stainess/ gold), fairly simple (doesn't want day, can live without date). I'm not that well-versed in rolex models - what should I be looking at in terms of model lines etc?

I have the stainless steel version. Yes, it's heavy but very nice. Think I bought it last year for £300 plus on sale. I actually wanted the gold colour version but non-available. I searched online and only the rose gold version is available. All good no complaint at all but can be a bit cold in winter on the wrist when you first put it on in the morning. LOL! The atomic time and multiband are brilliant, and it is tough solar too. I have two other standard G-Shocks and they too are brilliant everyday watch. It is also bluetooth enable but I don't use that feature.
If you can get the gold version (think retail at £450 or slightly more) get that. If I can find one I would get one in future.
Also, if you happen to be in HK or far east you can also get the stainless steel casing (whatever colour) and transfer whatever G-Shocks you have into that too.

For Rolex any gold version (whatever version takes your fancy) is a good investment (but you are paying for gold price on top of the brand name now) but if I am not mistaken some of the really old version has more gold. 36mm to 41mm is the best.
Mrs BS’s 25th wedding anniversary present. It’s kinda silver
That's very nice. The gold one is even more bling.
yeah, she’d have had the gold one, I was just short of the other £28k
Finally gave in and ordered a Sugess Subby. Seems to be one of the better (some say best?) Subby homages. Totally forgot about the Ali 11.11 sale and paid $290 (about 140 quid) but could have saved $30 if I was paying attention when I ordered it at 2am on Friday night after after a few beverages...
Black or Green..... I love a glossy black sub style diver but went with the Kermit just to be a bit different. I think the green sunburst dial will look ace in the Aussie sun. N+1 indeed.

If she is set on Rolex then the Cellini line is worth a look. Otherwise there's 40s Oysters and later datejusts etc.
If not necessarily Rolex you.can pick up a smaller (usually 35mm) Patek or Vacheron Constantine for similar (or.less.for VCs) which are superior watches.
Thanks for the pointers, will add those to the homework. She has a small Cartier, but the clasp is a bit unreliable unfortunately. I fear while Patek or VC may be the better watch, her head's turned by the recognisability (of name and on the wrist) of Rolex - which is fair enough!
Very nice, an all time classic design.
Casio do a watch very, very similar to that design, for less than £50, IIRC. A good watch for someone who would like something a bit ‘dressier’, for occasional wear when a dive watch might not be appropriate.
Some people prefer a smarter watch for posh business wear, myself I’ll wear whatever I want, and to hell with anyone giving me the side-eye.
About 2 weeks into a Sugess submariner style homage. Got it in green dial with green ceramic bezel. Strap is lovely and complete with a glide-lock style on the fly adjustment. Always said I'd get a Subby and was THIS close to the all black but something about the green got me. Sapphire glass, decent lume, great strap. Looks stunning in the sun! (Apart from the word Seaman on it..... stop s****ing at the back!!!)
Very happy with it! Even better that it was only $250 (120 quid)
Ocean Star SP116610LV Burst Green Dial Green Bezel Automatic (NH35 movement) HULK
Visited a friend of many years standing, to drop off a Christmas card, a while we were chatting he went an fetched something he thought I might be interested in. I believe it belonged to his dad, who worked at the railway works in Swindon. So far, he’s been completely unable to discover what it’s purpose was.

It does still work, and the sweep hand rotates very fast. He’s been unable to even find photos of anything similar on the internet.
It’s Swiss made, but there’s no other marks on the movement.
Something of a conundrum.
My immediate thought was huh, it's a stopwatch, but fair play, those numbers on the dial are really odd. To have each of the inner numbers split into 50ths makes no sense. Colour me intrigued.
Can you time the time for the main hand to complete 1 revolution, that might explain the odd index.

Just to follow up on this, I went to chuck a cheeky offer in, and the bidding was already at $10k. I passed. It finished at well past the cheeky offer stage...

I can’t remember exactly what it was, but it was pretty quick. One suggestion was for use timing echo location for naval anti-submarine operations, my friend was trying to explain how it could be used, but I must admit I was struggling to follow his explanation.
It’s certainly a very niche time-piece.

Yeah, $21,760 is a bit rich for my tastes, but considering the former owner, and the fact that he actually wore it a lot as his chosen timepiece, it’s probably not unreasonable.
I thought it might be something for a guard on the railway to use for blowing whistles , waving flags etc so a train left on time, hence the markings being just before the half and full minute. But obviously that could just be cobblers.
Has your friend thought of asking the national rail museum if they've seen one.
A bit of googling suggests it's a military aviators stopwatch, used for measuring rate of turn (15 degrees for 3 seconds, for example), possibly made by Dennison. Can't find any examples that look like your friend's though.
I’m going to dip in here and ask for a bit of steer for a ladies watch. Bracelet style strap, say £1500 tops budget. We’ve been looking but it seems that that budget leads you to “fashion house” watches bracket, not watch brands.
I appreciate liking a watch is subjective, but I’m looking to get max bang for the buck, not necessarily an investment, but maybe a heirloom.
36mm version of the CW Twelve? https://www.christopherward.com/the-twelve/C12-36A3H1-S00B1-B0.html
What size ladies watch? 34mm and 36mm can look good on a lady if you want to be bold.
FWIW I wear a 34mm Rolex on my man’s wrist because I don’t like big watches so we are all different.
Also it sounds like you want to go with a new watch?
Something a bit different without too much expense. I picked up one of the cheap Casio ae1200 watches for £35 and then spent a bit of tim e and money modding it with a SKXMOD strap, housing and insert. It's now a fairly weighty thing! The kit is really nicely made. I am waiting for some low viscosity silicone oil to do a hydromod and may play around with different colour filters, but on the whole I am very happy with the retro look.
Yeah, I like that.
Updated with a green filter and hydromod. The hydromod was a pain to get rid of the bubbles, but the difference in clarity was worth it.
