I'd argue that for the vast majority of the range, if not all of it, that's simply not true.
They're bulky, awkward, sweaty/plastic-ey, have poor legibility day or night and are fiddly to use.
They're not, imo, a practical watch for actual use. Instead they're a watch which is designed to look like a practical ruffty tuffty watch for people who don't think too deeply about how they're going to use them.

I have the 2nd gen Epix & it’s possibly the best watch I’ve owned. Couldn’t quite justify the pro cost and then the 2nd gen Epix came up recently for £374. Love it, screen is brilliant - big improvement over the Fenix.

@IvanDobski - my opinion of the greater majority of G-Shock succinctly summed up. I have one, an analogue one that cost about £75, and that I found some adaptors for to take a NATO/ZULU strap. Problem is it gains a lot, and can’t be wound back, only forward. Very……..very……..very……..very……..slowly. 🙄
Shame, really, because it’s fairly compact, simple and fairly legible.
it’s a definite no, it looks terrible. The sort of thing to go with tactical torches etc.
A decent tactical flashlight is actually simple and useful, the main defining feature is the instant on/off tailcap button - I’ve got a couple and they’re not generally that expensive. Unlike the G-Shock Mud Man, which is unspeakably ugly! 😝

No, they're designed to look tough. They could be equally as tough but look substantially less g-shock.
Found a group photo of most of my watches, and my two cheap Casios are on the far left and right. The one on the right is my cheapest watch, I bought it for my stepdad, it cost less than £20, and I was able to mod a ZULU strap to fit it. It’s an extremely good time keeper, too, amazingly! The SPORK still has the ‘sharkskin’ mesh strap it had on for donks, but I prefer the original bracelet. Above it is a Seiko 5 with a polished case and bezel and Yokobies fleiger-style face and hands, which I’m pretty sure preceded my purchase of the SPORK.
I find it a bit small to wear now, TBH. It’s a shame that G-Shock is such a royal PITA to adjust, I like it to wear. ☹️

My six G's, the bottom one being the first I bought as a cheap work beater - did it's job admirably. Battery died ages ago and I never replaced it.
To the right, Victorinox Inox and my old Samsung that gets used as a beater when I don't want to wear my new one. By absolute pure coincidence - the battery in the Inox is dead and I unknowingly took the pic when it was showing the right time (almost)

Now you see, this is where YMMV comes in. As much as I appreciate the "why" for the Snoopy, I'd never wear a watch with a cartoon on it, even if it was an Omega.
Equally, smar****ches are a no for me with the exception of the one I use for Sports activity tracking and specifically that purpose.

Same, learned that lesson the hard way once. On tour couldn't charge it, needed a watch, looked like a plank. Ended up using my Garmin Foretrex until I could get a replacement.
The best watch I ever had for work was an issue G10 from CWC. Bombproof and reliable, also easy to sync for tasks.
£960??? I wish I'd kept mine now. Sold for £240 in 2016.
(I also sold an SBCJ013 Alpinist for £380 in 2016 - I wonder what that would fetch now)

The crystal scratched easily and quite badly, the PVD coating wore through fairly easily on the contact points.
I'm am engineer though and am hard on watches, Seiko5 Sports are stronger / harder wearing.
Bit disappointing, I was idly thinking of a tritium-tubed beater and they seemed to sit between the Nites and the no-name AliExpress options. Cheers for the info though.

Who needs a G anyway, I just realised I left this outside on the windowsill to charge before I sell it … 10 days ago! Rain, sleet snow, -2 and our visiting magpie aside, it’s all fine.
A question for the watch mechanism experts. What would cause an automatic watch to have the rotor spin when winding it manually? The winder feels stiff as well. Does from unwound and stopped as well as partially wound.
ETA 2824? Sounds like the reverser and it’s a common problem. They don’t like to be hand wound and will eventually break. My Tissot Visodate is sick with the same thing. Rotor will turn when winding and it’s rough to wind. In fact my old Tudor BB41 was fixed under warranty with the same issue
It's a CW C60 Trident so a Sellita movement I think. Only 7 months old and CW are sorting it under warranty so no issue with their customer service. Just wondered what the cause might be (what's a reverser?)
Bullet - don’t expect to see it back anytime soon. I sent my c1000 elite back for a similar sounding issue when it was 2 months old, took them 6 months to fix it and send back! Didn’t get a single message from customer service other than “we’ve received it” until it arrived back. It didn’t even have a compliments slip or report of what was wrong when it came back, just the watch and a new COSC certificate.

Am looking at getting a beater watch as all my current collection are too good to get worn whilst working, I’m after a simple face, with numbers, good lume and just a clear watch face and automatic or solar.
I want to spend less not more, any pointers, before I go trawling fleabay etc. ? Or has anyone on this thread got anything they’d like to move on ?
No divers, or g shocks please, I’ve had g shocks before and whilst I do like them, I’ve not really got on with them.
@Bullet yeah the Sellita is a clone of a 2824 and will have the same reverser issue. When I comes back, don't hand wind it past the just getting it going.
If it makes you feel better Tudor had mine for 6 months as well. Any watchmaker would be able to fix that issue fair easily though

i might have just caught them wrong, they fixed it foc and it’s been perfect ever since, I just expected a bit of customer service/updates. I think mine must have gone back to Switzerland but will never know!
@walowiz - did you see the Timex posted a couple of pages back, looks like it would fit the bill, still a fair chunk of change though so depends what your budget is
